Launched in 1997, the Gayo Daejeon music festival first aired through the Seoul Broadcasting System, providing awards to music artists between 1997 and 2006. The award ceremony aspect of the festival began in 2014 but was suspended in 2015. Traditionally held as an annual year-end music festival since 2007, SBS has now announced that the prestigious event will be organized twice a year. The summer edition will take place in July, while the year-end music festival will continue to be held in the second half of the year, offering fans double the excitement and opportunities to celebrate the best in K-pop music.

The lineup for the event was disclosed in three phases, each unveiling an impressive array of artists. STAYC, known for their catchy tunes and charming presence; xikers, a new group generating buzz with their unique style; KISS OF LIFE, who promise to bring fresh talent and charisma; NCT DOJAEJUNG, a sub-unit of NCT known for their exceptional vocals and harmonies; and ILLIT, an emerging group ready to make their mark on the K-pop scene.
