Sakamoto Days Episode 3 Recap

In this episode, Shin fully embraces his role as a dedicated convenience store clerk, and his frustration grows as Lu barely puts in any effort. Expecting Sakamoto to intervene, he is caught off guard by his leader’s unexpected response, leaving both him and Lu stunned.

Despite not being much of a talker, Sakamoto suddenly becomes unusually chatty in a cheerful yet odd way. The reason for this shift soon becomes clear, a highly skilled hitman, capable of mimicking others’ appearances, has arrived. Through him, Sakamoto learns that a massive bounty has been placed on his head, suggesting that after years of peace, someone is determined to eliminate him.

This episode showcases a relentless wave of assassins attempting to take down Sakamoto, only for him and his newly assembled team to fend them off. Interestingly, while Shin is often seen as Sakamoto’s sidekick, he takes center stage here. His unwavering loyalty is highlighted when he refuses to let any threats disrupt Sakamoto’s precious time with his family.

Once Tatsu got apprehended in the previous episode, I thought the threats against the Sakamoto family were over. However, that is definitely not the case, as in this episode, we see more powerful enemies after our protagonists. After Tatsu got cornered, he pretty easily spilt all the beans about Dondenkai, an organization that gave him his mission to kill Sakamoto.

Apparently, it is a very toxic organization that has many assassins but still wants them to work solo. Here, we also learn that all the assassins have a license issued by a proper assassin association called the Japanese Association of Assassins. If you want to go pro and earn proper money from your killings, you better have your killing license.

Another very important piece of data gets revealed. Sakamoto might have been a part of the very mysterious organization called The Order. Once questioned, Sakamoto neither agrees nor denies this, and I’m pretty sure we will get more info about it later on. But the two assassins that are targeting Sakamoto’s family in this episode are definitely not any ordinary enemies Sakamoto has handled previously.

From the way Boiled, one of the assassin duo talks about Sakamoto, it is clear that he has a history with him. We realize that they were supposedly friends once and now have turned into enemies. But the story is hilarious because the friendship was very much one-sided from Boiled’s side, as Sakamoto never really acknowledged him. This aspect heavily grates on Boiled’s mind, and he is still salty over that aspect. Thus, this time, he wants to get his revenge along with his partner Obiguro, who is also a very interesting character.

Today’s episode was very enjoyable, but it ended with a nasty cliffhanger. We do not see the conclusion of the fights, and it is apparent that we will have to wait for the next episode to witness that. Towards the end, you get a surprise and see Sakamoto in his former glory, and hopefully, we will get answers about why it happened as well.

I liked this episode as the story gets pretty engaging. But the highlight is definitely the funny characters who keep you entertained till the end. The animation is definitely unique, and it will take some time to be accustomed to it. But it is not bad at all.
