Pro Bono Episode 4 Recap

This episode begins, and Gi-ppeum confronts David about why he took such a drastic step. He then goes on to say how they must get a lot of attention so that the case cannot be dismissed anymore. This obviously creates a stir within the media, as they even go on to hold a press conference. Gang-hun does exceptionally well here, and we also get to know that he is a genius Go player who has a massive record in an online Go game. Later, Gi-ppeum again tells David not to use Gang-hun for his PR stunt. While arguing her case, Gi-ppeum goes on to blame David for doing everything for his own selfish reasons and not for Gang-hun.

David clearly tells her that if she thinks him to be such a scumbag, she can leave his team. Later, Gang-hun’s mother yells and blames her son for going on TV. She also scolds him vehemently and tells him that he is doing this because he wants to get adopted. She almost raises her hand at him, but then stops herself. On the first day of trial, everything starts with David spitting facts about the case. He also requests an on-site inspection.

This section was absolutely hilarious because both the judge and the Defense lawyer get to see how difficult life is for Gang-hun. Things become problematic when Gang-hun’s mother gets called to court. During the questioning, the defence counsel asks some hard-hitting questions to Gang-hun’s mother that are very clearly meant to start a character assassination of her. They completely blame Gang-hun’s situation on her. She gets asked whether she hates the birth of her son, and she breaks down, claiming that she does not hate Gang-hun at all.

After that, we get to see the sad childhood of Gang-hun’s mother, who was abandoned when she was a child herself. She even goes to commit suicide, but that is when Gang-hun saves her life with a call. After this, David goes on to ask for the CEO, because of whom the case got dragged to this in the first place. The CEO comes, and a very heated debate happens between him and David. Where they both present their worldviews and belief systems. Apart from that, one of the most important developments in this series is the fact that we finally see who the mastermind was behind David’s situation.

Back to Gang-hun’s case, things become really interesting as we see what actually led Gang-hun to come to the court. Apparently, Gang-hun was in a really good school, but he developed a small crush on a girl and decided to confess with a letter. However, once it became known to everyone, they bullied him mercilessly. Things develop from here on, and the ending gives us a very impactful conclusion to this dynamic case.

I absolutely loved today’s episode as it ended in a very unexpected way. At the same time, the ending twist was something that I did not see coming, and it will be interesting to see how things will go from here on.
