Poker Face Review (Episodes 1-4)
The show follows Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), a highly skilled lie detector who uses her abilities to solve various mysteries and crimes by implementing her unique skills of deduction, alongside some awkward humour. She is insistent about reaching a conclusion, even if it means crossing certain lines.
Moreover, another thing that separates the show from the current age of mystery dramas or slow-burning anthologies is the fresh puzzle format that keeps the show alive and kicking and allows for a wide range of stories and plot devices to be explored.
Furthermore, from small-town murders to high-stakes heists, each episode offers something different and keeps the audience guessing until the very end. The show’s writing is also top-notch (including a classic Rian Johnson pilot) and manages to blend elements of comedy and drama seamlessly, thereby making for a truly enjoyable binge-watching experience.

One of the strongest aspects of the series is Lyonne’s performance as Charlie. She brings a perfect mix of wit, charm, and intelligence to the character and is a complete joy to watch on screen. The show is also loaded with a talented ensemble cast that changes with every episode, with each bringing its own unique flavour to the series.
The show also delves into the complexities of human behaviour and how people’s actions are often motivated by a mixture of lies and truths. The series also does a great job of building suspense and tension throughout each episode. As a viewer, you’ll be constantly on your toes while the expertly curated pace complements the rhythm.
Finally, the show is visually stunning, with beautiful frames and a unique aesthetic that sets it apart from other shows in the genre. Notably, at times, I was reminded of multiple Sidney Lumet movies from the seventies and eighties.
