DJ Track Video: NCT 127 Pre-Release a Playful Old-School Visual for ‘Ay-Yo’

Living in the Gen-Z era, camcorders have turned into a “vintage” entity that we often resort to for the employment of pleasing aesthetics, and NCT 127’s DJ track video has achieved the same. What was once a reality for us is now an aesthetic and the Seoul-based sub-unit of NCT (Neo Culture Technology) signed under SM Entertainment has pre-released a track off its upcoming album Ay-Yo to tease the fans in one of the most gratifying harmonies.

Dropping on January 26, 2023, the video showcases the 9 members of the group – Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong (leader), Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark, and Haechan in their playful avatars, each sporting at least one garment in pink. 127’s album B-sides are widely known to be the softer counterparts of their hard-hitting, bass-popping title tracks, and the same trend has been followed by this particular song as well.

With ample number of camcorder footage and fish-eye camera lens perspective, the group members are shown to be enjoying their fun ride and “feeling kinda wonderful”. The video starts off with Mark, the K-pop group’s main rapper, as he sets the room for a chill track to follow, and the nonet’s leader, Taeyong, a fellow main rapper, picks up the beats thereafter.

As always, the vocalists – Jungwoo, Doyoung, Haechan and Taeil have an opposing charm factor that contrast the gruff rap verses delivered earlier. Their melodious sweet harmony is as soft to the ears as it is to the heart. Yuta and Jaehyun, on the other hand, belt out their talents for the chorus of the song. Jaehyun also deals with the rapping sequences at some positions, and his delivery complements the one presented by Johnny, with both of them coming out on top as the quintessential heartbeat of the old-school vibe.
