Emerging from the bottom of the food chain, Cha Moo-sik (Choi Min-sim) made his presence felt in the game of money by starting a Casino bar, but Big Bet Season 1 ending weighs heavy on his shoulders. Let’s take a look at all the incidents that unfolded in the Big Bet Season 1 finale.
The series describes it thematic storyline as follows, “Betrayal is rampant in the presence of money. Who will be the last person standing?” Starring Choi Min-sik, Son Suk-ku and Lee Dong-hwi in the titular roles, the Korean drama series has been directed by King Yoon-sung (known for helming The Outlaws (2017)), who also stepped in as the screenwriter. The eight-episode run of the first season was concluded with the latest entry that premiered on Disney+ Hotstar, or Hulu on January 25, 2023.
Having earned his title as the King of the Casino scene in the Philippines, Moo-sik’s life is also drenched in blood money. Several deaths have befallen in the first season, and one way or another they all trace their origins to the leading character in the mess. Son Suk-ku’s Oh Seung-hoon joined the team only in the latter half of the season, but his introduction instantly changed the rather mellow-paced narrative into a chase between the stakeholders of the Casino business and the police force. Here’s what went down in the final moments of the seasons.
Big Bet Season 1 Ending Explained
So-jung and Philip’s deaths bring the original team back together as Moo-sik, Jung-pal and Sang-gu piece the puzzle together. While it appears as if Moo-sik has no clue about who the perpetrator of the crime is, an eventual meet-up between him and John begs to differ. The latter incident, however, doesn’t shed absolute light on the issue as other business matters are also brought into their conversations.
The discussion implied that John had been been helping Moo-sik with some unannounced business that was to kept under wraps and hidden from ‘the big boss’. He hands over a heavy sack to his friend, which Moo-sik can barely carry, but again it’s never revealed as to what the bag holds.

A constant mental tussle between Seung-hoon and Mark also keeps the former in check as he’s often reminded of the Philippines not being in his jurisdiction. He’s compelled to follow Mark’s lead even when he doesn’t want to and ultimately his impulses overpower him when the two head out to catch Charlie at his present place of residence. While Mark asks him to stay back again, Seung-hoon moves in and chases him down too, which ends up with him getting mildly injured, but at least the partners are able to drive the criminal to a corner and take him into custody.
Tae-seok is once again brought up to make matter tenser than before. Everyone’s hatred for him is more than evident and Moo-sik plans on resolving the issue for goo once he finds out that he’s gotten violent with Jung-pal. As he’s leading a venue of his own now, his ego-boost knows no ends, but Moo-sik calls him to talk things over, which ends with him being pinned on the table head-first by Sang-gu as he tries rile things up again.
This obviously foreshadows the final scene as Tae-seok can’t bear to accept the humiliation at Moo-sik’s hands and points a gun at the veteran by walking into his residence in the dead of the night. Some action unfolds but the credits roll out before we get the answers to our questions.

Seung-hoon, on the other hand, can’t take being the bystander of endless crimes against Koreans in the Philippines and he gets hold of an untraceable gun on the streets in order to stop feeling helpless in such situations. The Korean desk officers has his suspicions about Moo-sik’s involvement in the crossfire, but he’s not been able to corner him yet or lay his hands on crucial evidence to fuel his hypothesis, especially since higher-ups are always covering for Mr Cha.
Yoon-gi from the Korean Embassy grants himself a death wish by to relenting to Moo-sik’s case. He keeps on his tail after Deok-bae is kidnapped by him. However, Moo-sik’s contacts run deep and the Agiles Police Chief tips him off about the “shoot on sight if necessary” order from the Embassy. The Casino owner has his own set of threats to hand out to the Embassy officer as he calls him and uses his family’s name against him to shut him down.
Big Bet episode 8 ending leaves us with more questions than answers, but it makes one thing clear i.e. the upcoming season will be heavily driven by its action-based approach when Seung-hoon and Moo-sik will finally be at loggerheads with each other, and Seok-jun’s murder case will be brought back into focus. Who do you think will end up at the top? Will Moo-sik be incriminated for all these suspicions? How do you think his connection with John impacts the rest of the story?
