Pam and Tommy Episode 6: “Pamela in Wonderland”

The sixth episode of Pam and Tommy is directed by Hannah Fidell and written by Sarah Gubbins. There comes a major shift in the tone of the entire series with episode 6 as it places its most important character on the pedestal. In Pam and Tommy Episode 6, we see Pamela Anderson bathe in the limelight of both good and bad. The previous episodes have mostly focused on the relationship between Pam and Tommy and, the last one even took us deeper into the fall of Tommy Lee’s music career. Amidst all this, Pam had been kept on the sidelines until now.

We start the episode with teenager Pamela getting a business card inviting her to be a part of the modelling industry while dating a boy who is aggressive and jealous. We take a jump to 1996 watching Pamela being questioned about her modelling choices and, a sharp note of judgement is passed about her relationship with Tommy and, how he has been a man who cannot keep it into his pants. All this puts Anderson in a circle of judgement and being attacked because of certain choices she made in life.

The episode constantly jumps from the present to the past and, vice versa and, it is not long before we are taken to the point in young Miss Anderson’s life when she leaves her abusive boyfriend after the man is angered by Playboy’s role in Pam’s life. From Labatt to Playboy, we see the rise of Pamela Anderson as we are also subsequently reminded of the misogyny in society through the deposition Anderson has to face.

From being distraught questions to the sex tape even being played right in front of her eyes, we get a clear understanding of how the era of patriarchy had smashed her under the bubble of their dated concept of consent and sex positivity. The episode comes to an end when Pamela finally has had enough and chooses to remove herself from the office and, is no longer willing to cooperate.
