Overlord Season 4 Episode 3 Review- Politics

Kiss Overlord Season 4 Episode 3

The power levels in this show are off-the-wall and unbalanced. Towards the end of season 1 was the hardest battle Ainz has ever fought, and it was against his own subject, who was created by one of his dear old guildmates. Since then, it looks like the power possessed by Ainz and his subordinates has done nothing but increase, and it has come to a point where they have become the force to overcome in the show. Not a single entity in this universe can even dream of laying a hand on them, let alone defeat them.

This has led to desperate times in most of the other kingdoms ever since Ainz decided to announce his existence to them. The power that one of his subordinates possesses is greater than all the other empires put together and then some, and Season 3 of the show was built around Ainz being subconsciously manipulated by some of his comrades to showcase at least some of that. He got what he desired, but no amount of power is too much power for entities like him, and he doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon.

Momonga El nix Overlord Season 4 Episode 3

Speaking of the end of season 1, the plot point of “who used the world item on Shalltear” had been left hanging ever since, and it finally looks like we are getting closer and closer to the answer to that question. Depending on who that character is, we could either be heading towards a challenge to Ainz, the kind we hadn’t seen before, as in another human being in the game, or just another group of humans who lucked into finding an item of that calibre who are inevitably going to be destroyed by Momonga. I know which option I prefer.

A lot of Overlord Season 4 Episode 3 was spent introducing new characters whom Momonga will defeat this season. It is becoming a trend in the show that sees a new set of characters introduced at the start of each season that serve as nothing more than death/slave fodder for the king of the undead and a learning experience for one of the subjects. Let’s hope that these new enemies turn out to be a little more useful than that or that dealing with them requires more than a single minute of spellcasting by Ainz.

King El Nix also spent some significant time in this episode lamenting how out of depth he is against such a force. No matter how many moves he thinks of, Momonga is always two steps ahead. There was also a significant amount of information dumping in the form of a long five-minute conversation between characters that we didn’t know previously. It was an enlightening talk that revealed a lot about how a few things that happened previously came to be, but watching people talk in an anime isn’t always an interesting use of time. This was a setup episode for not necessarily a very good arc, so it didn’t work very well.

Verdict

Overlord Season 4 Episode 3 was an episode where a lot happened, none of it being particularly entertaining or interesting. Let’s hope all this setup was worth it!
