Our Times Ending Explained
When Nora and Hector first came to the future, they were very ecstatic about the success of their experiment. They were rightfully intrigued by the future and even willingly explored everything that this time had to offer to them.
Both Nora and Hector became accustomed to technology and even started to use mobile phones out of sheer curiosity. However, slowly, we get to see that while Nora is becoming more habituated and accepting of the change, Hector does not quite agree with it. One of the best examples of this is when Hector refuses to use a laptop because he can keep everything in his memory, while Nora is open to utilising the device.
Do Nora And Hector Stay Together?
The situation here becomes a bit tricky as both Nora and Hector do not stay together for a long period of time. Nora, who is getting all the important opportunities in her life that she never got previously, is enjoying a time when women enjoy freedom. In her time, giving a lecture in front of multiple audiences would have been impossible, but now she can do that.
On top of that, she doesn’t need her husband to perform even the minute tasks, and there is no one to look down on her gender anymore. However, the situation becomes more unbearable for Hector, who has always lived in a patriarchal society. Even though he himself was not a typical misogynist, his outdated ideals and morals clash with modern times, and he starts to feel out of place here. This is why, towards the end, they both decide that Hector will leave and Nora will stay behind.
Did Nora Regret Her Decision?
When Nora realised that Hector had always been her inspiration and she truly loved him, she indeed became momentarily sad about leaving him. Not only that, she even goes back to the lab, perhaps to join Hector in his travels. However, there she finds a letter in which Hector tells her how he would not want her to give up on her dreams just because of him. He also lets her know that he will always love her, and he cannot let a man of backwards thinking become a hindrance to her progress.
Though Nora becomes extremely sad, she understands and appreciates Hector’s feelings and decides to live the life she always wanted. After this, she goes on to become a renowned scientist with multiple accolades and establishes herself as a woman of power in her new time.
Do Hector and Nora Ever Meet Again?
Yes, Hector and Nora do reunite and choose to spend the rest of their lives together. This heartfelt moment takes place when Nora travels back to the year 1996, when both characters are now much older. Having lived their individual lives on their own term, like exploring different eras, ambitions, and personal growth, they finally realise that the one constant they still long for is each other.
