Our Little Secret Review
After Meet Me Next Christmas, Hot Frosty and The Merry Gentlemen, we finally have a Lindsay Lohan holiday film to enjoy. After Irish Wish and Falling For Christmas, we have arrived at Our Little Christmas, a movie fraught with all the holiday cheers and tropes that make this time of the year oh-so fantastic.
However, the problem with this Christmas flick is just unmemorable in every way possible. There are just too many tropes following around these very basic and, frankly, boring characters who have nothing going for them. Personally, tropes are great for Christmas movies but the characters have to be somewhat likeable and gooey. The movie neither delivers anything new, nor its characters stand out in any way. Logan is a pro with these movies and is somewhat charismatic, but both Ian Harding and Jon Rudnitsky’s characters are just so forgettable that you don’t want either of them to end up with the leading lady.

The funniest of the lot is Kristin Chenoweth, whose mother-in-law from hell Erica is the most entertaining by a mile. Her depiction of the family matriarch is fantastic and thoroughly memorable. Other than that, the film showcases some of the most overdone situations that will make not many people laugh. For example, at one point, Lohan’s Avery consumes something with THC in it and immediately starts acting so strange that it stops being funny and, instead, makes you roll your eyes.
From then on, the film starts to feel a little insane and you can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation being showcased. The insanity is a welcome change, at least the absurdity keeps the boredom away and leaves you fascinated with the absolute goofiness being shown onscreen. The vet scene was probably my favourite – it was thoroughly brain-dead, but, as mentioned earlier, it’s the absurdity that leaves you entertained in the end.

In the end, Our Little Secret fumbles its way trying to be everything and nothing at the same time. The film doesn’t have any memorable moments that set it apart from other movies of the genre and makes you feel rather bored after watching the same old things again and again. The problem isn’t the trope, it’s that it doesn’t try to be anything but the trope, which is a shame considering Lohan is really sweet and relatable in the film.
Final Thoughts

Our Little Secret is stupid and forgettable and doesn’t have anything memorable. It’s especially disheartening to watch the lack of anything interesting when it comes to the characters, who are flat and boring. However, this is a Christmas movie and in spite of the tropes and silliness, there’s entertainment here that will keep viewers engaged for the most part.
