Oshi No Ko Season 2 Episode 5 Recap

Oshi No Ko Season 2 Episode 6 Review Peak Character Development

After revealing his insecurities and secrets to Akane, Aqua and Akane’s bond strengthens significantly. Their relationship takes a notable leap forward, and it’s clear that Aqua now trusts Akane in a way he hasn’t trusted anyone else before. He even allows her to watch his childhood acting tapes, something he never permitted Kana to do. This trust likely stems from Akane’s deep and almost blind affection for him.

Akane is so supportive and accepting of Aqua that she even agrees to be his accomplice when he confides in her about his dark desire to commit murder once he becomes famous. Her unwavering conviction surprises Aqua, solidifying their partnership as they both seek to challenge their acting skills together.

Both Aqua and Akane are facing personal struggles—Akane is determined to outshine Kana, while Aqua battles his psychological barriers. To overcome these challenges, they decide to train intensively with director Gotanda, who provides valuable acting guidance to Aqua. However, Aqua’s greatest challenge remains emotional acting, which is his Achilles’ heel.

Today we witness the beginning of the much-awaited stage play for which our leads have been practicing for a long time. The episode begins with the actors completely immersed in their roles and the way we are positioned feels like we are present there in the auditorium. Then we get introduced to all the characters and the story begins about a certain man who obtained a single sword which completely changed his fate. At first, we see the entry of the hero Blade, played by Taiki, who defeats Tsurugi, played by Kana, and claims the sword for himself.

Tsurugi then starts the journey as Blade’s companion. She promises to help him rule all of Japan and slowly these two gain more companions like Kizami, played by Melt. Inside the play, the characters are waiting to have their face off against the Shibuya onis, who are the main antagonist of this series. But from here on, you also witness the journey of Melt as an actor.

His main moment as a supporting character comes when he must confront a past ally, Monme, who has sided with the Shibuya onis. This character is played by none other than Sakuya, the man with whom Melt has a rivalry going on. Yes, Sakuya’s personality sucks and he is just your average womaniser. But one thing you cannot deny is how good of an actor he is. Thus, it is up to Melt to try and keep up with this seasoned actor and prove his worth.

Towards the second half of the episode, we are taken on a journey about Melt and I honestly did not expect to be so impressed with this segment. We see what kind of character Melt is and how he entered the industry. His lack of acting prowess is something that he is not unaware of, but rather, at first, he thought he could survive without them. However, when he got a dose of reality and learned how he might be never enough for this profession, he started to work his ass off.

He is not a talented actor who can study their characters to a T like Akane, nor is he a perfect emulator like Aqua, who can follow the directions of a director perfectly. So, how can he surpass these actors who are a beast in their field whereas his first gig had been an absolute nightmare?

Verdict

The way his growth is shown is absolutely brilliant and you really feel the inner turmoil that he goes through. On top of that, the animation also surprises us with some really cool shots to showcase how he finally grasps his strengths. Towards the end, you feel satisfied and crave more.
