What makes the film even better is that this is based on real-life events, and we get a sneak peek of the people in the film.

Nonnas Review

After the loss of his mother, Joey tries to pick himself up through the food he remembers eating all his life. Rediscovering his nonna and mother’s recipes, he takes a bold step to open up a restaurant where everyone can feel at home. Joining him on this journey are his friends and nonnas, who are ready to take over the kitchen once again.

A simple yet beautiful story, the plot of this film may not seem like something extraordinary, but that is also because it doesn’t try to be extraordinary. Instead, it tries to be homely, comfortable, and warm for the viewers who are looking for a home away from home. It brings the warmth of the women in our lives, and I have the say, the film chose the perfect time to hit the platform, right before Mother’s Day. Just this hits homerun and once you have viewed this film, get ready to rush back home into the warmth of these women.

The visual feast that this film takes you through is another beautiful aspect that we have to talk about. Not only do you get to witness the beautiful sight of some homely Italian cooking, but you also get to see four beautiful nonnas doing this together. Each one of these women plays an important role, not just in bringing the best of their art, but also in representing different types of people who don’t hold back from sharing their traditional foods. You will absolutely love all the actors in this film as they don’t just perform, they live these characters in their own way.

Surely, the character Joey is leading the film, but you will find yourself unable to look away from the nonnas who are the pride of this movie. I have loved the cuteness overflowing in some of the scenes (especially the end-credits scenes), which makes me want to visit the location of this restaurant. The atmosphere that has been created throughout the film shows you the comforts of home that becomes what it is because of these beautiful women in our lives.

Altogether, this movie was absolutely perfect for this weekend, as it doesn’t just pay homage to mothers but also takes you to a familial environment for the duration of the movie. It has got everything you would want from a heartwarming movie, and also comes with its side of romance and comedy.

Summing Up

Nonnas is the kind of movie that you would want to watch this weekend, not just because it is Mother’s Day weekend, but also because of the warmth that the film brings. It has got everything you would want when in the mood for some homey vibes, and will not leave you disappointed.

Watch Nonnas on Netflix.
