No Longer Allowed In Another World Episode 1 Review

This is one unique animal that is definitely something very different from what we have seen in this season. The show might not outright say, but if you are aware of the famed Japanese writer Osamu Dazai, who is also the writer of the masterpiece novel No Longer Human, you will know that this anime is based on him. Just like the protagonist of this show, Sensei, Osamu was also a depressed young man who tried to commit suicide on multiple occasions but survived. However, the writer succumbed to a tragic end when he committed a double suicide with his lover in 1948.
This episode begins with the part when Sensei goes to commit a double suicide with a woman called Sachan. But before they can move on with their plan, the infamous truck-kun crashes into them and sends Sensei to another world. Upon waking up from what seemed like death to Sensei, he thinks he is in the afterlife. However, his misconceptions were corrected by Annette, his guide for his journey as an adventurer in this world.

What she did not expect was to get with an adventurer who would rather kill himself than have another chance at life. She becomes absolutely shocked that even after getting the opportunity to live again, and that too with the help of powers, Sensei decided to overdose on poison right in front of her. Thankfully, she saved him and tried to talk him out of his intentions by indicating a chance at a better future in this world. But that idea also backfires when she finds out that Sensei literally came with extremely poor stats that make him weak even as an adventurer.
With this knowledge at hand, Sensei is doubly assured that he is a failure in this world as well, and it is a waste to live anymore. But when he thinks he can finally rest in peace, another girl comes his way. However, what finally convinces him to live for a few days more is the whereabouts of someone special.

Verdict
I liked this episode a lot and would love to see how this series turns out. The comedy works, but you also feel bad for Sensei and realise the reality of his sorrows. Hopefully, there will come a time when he will genuinely come to enjoy his life in this new world like every other Isekai protagonist. Till then, Anette and Tama (we do not know her real name yet) will have to do their best to help Sensei out.
If you are bored of all the basic Isekais which showcase the same storyline over and over again, try this one.
