The Imperfects Trailer: Teens and Their Experiment Gone Wrong

Netflix recently released the trailer for The Imperfects, a new original series debuting on the OTT platform soon. The show will be bringing some classic tropes of the supernatural genre fused with science fiction. Although the trailer paints a formulaic trajectory for ‘gifted’ teenagers and their origin story, it’ll be interesting to find out what new it brings to the table of a plethora of similar pre-existing stories.

“A chupacabra, a banshee, and a succubus meet in a park”, and what do they do? They head out in pursuit of Dr. Alex Sarkov, who experimented on the three without their consent, giving birth to unprecedented life-changing side effects. Now all they have to do is work together to undo them.

However, the catch is a bit far-fetched, as it usually is in such stories. The doctor is constantly running tests on several subjects to make a greater and scarier monster in town.

The Imperfects trailer
A chilling scene from The Imperfects trailer. The show comes out this September.

The Imperfects can’t do what normal teenagers would as a cry for help, but conversely, they can also do what most teenagers can’t even dream of. The development arc takes us to the turn where the trio is pushed to embrace who they are, as the trailer gives away, “Sometimes outcasts make the best heroes”. Their abilities can either break or make them, it’s all up for speculation.

Guess we’ll have to wait for the actual show to figure out if it makes enough ripples to startle us or just gets left behind as one of the wannabe TV series with superpowered individuals, also coming to terms with their coming-of-age arc.
