My Name is Gabriel Episode 2 Recap

Episode 2 of My Name is Gabriel continues Park Bo-gum and Park Myung-soo’s journey in Dublin and Chiang Mai respectively. Beginning with Park Bo-gum, he is out with Ruaidhri’s friends for some drinks after practice and is now a lot more comfortable in his role. The drinks in Bo-gum’s hands surprise the hosts as the group talks about this and that.

While they comment on Bo-gum’s new drinking habits, the scene of him having fun with the guys plays. They begin talking about Ruaidhri’s life and how he’s brought change to their lives, making Bo-gum emotional as he begins to cry again. Soon, the choir begins singing in the pub, catching everyone’s attention as they enjoy the live music.

They later ask Bo-gum to also sing a solo and he doesn’t shy away as he begins the next song. The night soon comes to an end with Bo-gum giving a speech to the choir for their upcoming performance at the square before leaving for the night. Back at home, Bo-gum completes the nighttime rituals of Ruaidhri and heads to bed.

The next day, Bo-gum wakes up and finishes the morning routine assigned by Ruaidhri but is left unsatisfied with the breakfast. He makes his way to the kitchen where he finds Ruaidhri’s housemate Nicola and finds out that the bread and eggs he ate the previous morning belonged to her.

He apologises for his rudeness and begins talking to her, but in the middle, he stops to ask her for something to eat. He finds some yoghurt and gets the location of a sandwich store nearby upon his request. He then heads out to meet Ruaidhri’s parents and grabs a sandwich on the way.

When on the train, he meets two American students and has a brief talk with them while introducing himself as the 40-year-old Ruaidhri. He then asks them to check out his performance with the choir at the square and soon gets down at his stop. He then makes his way to the parent’s house where he is given a warm welcome by Ruaidhri’s mother.

He gifts her the flowers he brought her and soon enjoys the hospitality given to him with a happy smile. He once again finds out more about Ruaidhri while talking with them about how it has been meeting the choir and living Ruaidhri’s life. Soon, the trio makes its way to the kitchen where Ruaidhri’s mother teaches Bo-gum how to make her son’s favourite bread.

Bo-gum soon learns the skill from her and later helps her set up the lunch table. Finally getting a fulfilling meal after a long time, Bo-gum is happily devouring the food while Ruaidhri’s mother watches him with a smile. While he enjoys yet another round of drinking, he begins talking to the couple about their life and well-being.

Later, she takes him to Ruaidhri’s childhood room and the garden behind their house while Bo-gum does the dutiful son deeds by helping them around the garden and changing the light bulbs. Soon, it is time for him to leave and after a special song on the piano for the couple, he hands over the card he wrote to them and leaves.

Ruaidhri’s parents gift him lots of bread to share with the choirmen and see him off. Bo-gum soon returns home where he prepares for his friends to arrive for some more practice. The group soon arrives and Bo-gum takes about 15 minutes to open the door for them. After a lot of struggle with the key, he is finally able to open the door for them and welcomes them inside.

The men soon get comfortable while Bo-gum gets some bread and opens the wine brought by one of the friends. With more drinking on the way, the men soon get their food and begin practice. Bo-gum takes over the piano and practices the parts he has problems with while the other join him in singing the songs.

Soon, two of the men demonstrate to Bo-gum how he should work on his dance suggestion and involve the audience in their performance. Following some brief practice, one of the men grabs a guitar and begins playing some Blues with Bo-gum, giving them their impromptu song- Burrito Blues.

After some more practice, Bo-gum heads to bed and tries to practice for a little longer but as sleep overcomes him, he drifts off into dreamland. With his time as Ruaidhri soon coming to an end, Bo-gum prepares for the real battle. With this, Bo-gum’s side of the story comes to a pause while we are taken to Myung-soo’s experience in Thailand,

Myung-soo is woken up early in the morning and sent to buy some groceries. While he chooses to not listen to Jaem’s introduction, he heads out but stops very soon to get Jaem’s help in setting up the GPS. He then heads to the market but fails to properly follow the GPS which leads to a long detour, leading him to arrive late at the market.

Upon his arrival, Myung-soo carelessly parks the bike and heads into the market which is filled with the morning chaos. Standing amidst this chaos is the non-Thai-speaking Myung-soo who finds it hard to read the list given to him. He struggles to buy the items on the list but somehow manages to get most of the items after which he remembers the bike he had parked earlier.

However, he finds himself lost in the maze-like market and walking in circles to find where he parked his bike. When he finally finds the spot, he finds no bike there which leaves him in shock and panic. He looks around everywhere and soon, he is left with no choice but to call Jaem.

He tells Jaem what has happened and asks her to rush to the market while he stands there waiting for her. But, the heat is not easy to bear and he doesn’t hesitate to grab some iced coffee for himself. However, unknown to him, the bike is not very far from his sight as a kind-hearted person parked his bike across the street upon noticing some police officers tolling the bikes away.

Unaware of this, Myung-soo continues to wait for Jaem and when she does arrive, he bursts out on her for sending him alone for this task. While the hosts are not impressed by Myung-soo at this moment, they continue to watch while Myung-soo tries to explain his point to them. Meanwhile, Jaem makes him realise that he is now Votti and this is what he does every morning.

Myung-soo realises this and begins to apologise to her while the two head to look for the bike. Soon, Jaem finds the bike which surprises Myung-soo as it wasn’t too far. She then asks him for the keys which Myung-soo thinks he has lost, while Jaem pulls them out from the ignition in the bike.

The two sighs at this while Jaem takes Myung-soo back into the market to get the remaining items along with some unripe papayas as Myung-soo bought ripe papayas. She then takes him to their regular shops and gets the best products for their business. With this, the two soon head home where Myung-soo gets Si’s help to unload all the items before lying down in the common hall, in front of her tent.

Myung-soo finally gets his deserved rest before Jaem arrives to tell him that it is finally time to make some som tam.
