My Happy Marriage Season 2 Episode 5 Recap

This highlights the challenges women face in the imperial army, where they are often treated as inferior despite their skills. Kaoruko, despite proving herself capable of standing on equal ground with her peers and even defeating them in duels, continues to be met with disdain. When a soldier she previously bested starts badmouthing her among his friends, Miyo unexpectedly steps in to defend her.

She boldly challenges him, saying that if he refuses to acknowledge Kaoruko, he should first defeat her in a duel. This moment marks a significant step forward in Miyo’s character development, once timid and hesitant, she now shows a newfound strength, likely inspired by having a friend worth standing up for.

However, their growing friendship takes a complicated turn when Miyo learns that Kaoruko was once considered a potential fiancée for Kiyoka. While Miyo trusts Kaoruko and holds no resentment toward her, she can’t help but feel hurt that Kiyoka never mentioned this, especially after assigning Kaoruko as her bodyguard. Meanwhile, Kaoruko struggles with her lingering feelings for Kiyoka, knowing that they aren’t something she can simply set aside.

This episode had some shocking events that really surprised viewers. At first, we see Kiyoka and his men being lured to the royal residence because they thought the Crown Prince was in danger. Arata also joins him, and they deduce this might be a trap set by Usui. Their suspicions are confirmed when Masashi comes to Kiyoka with the news that Miyo is in danger.

On the other hand, Miyo is really in grave danger as her so-called father is here to take her away. He is not going to take a no for an answer, and he shows it through his actions. We also get to know that someone else helped Usui get past the barrier. This was astonishing, as who would willingly help him out? But shockingly, it was Kaoruko who was the hidden traitor and sold Miyo out. It is not like she wanted to, but she had to as she was cornered.

This segment proves how strong Kaoruko is compared to her male counterparts. She valiantly fights against Usui and even goes toe to toe with him for some time. But we all know what ends up happening in the end, and Usui wins the round. He also reveals some very interesting bits about Miyo and Miyo’s mother. Usui is actually not Miyo’s father, and he just thinks of her as his daughter.

Maybe deep down, he thinks that with Miyo, he somehow can retain some memory of her mother. As he could not save her, perhaps he wished to keep Miyo to fill that void. This is also why, we see him approaching Arata with a crazy proposition. Usui really is a master manipulator who wants to use any and everyone to reach his goals.

Today’s episode was engaging and explored other characters more than Miyo. We see her take a backseat as everyone else scrambles to save her. She is the golden goose that carries great power, and the one to possess her will be the ultimate winner. Hopefully, Kiyoka will be ready for more problems that will come their way.
