Ms Marvel Episode 5 Recap/Review Contains Major Spoilers
In Ms Marvel Episode 5, we meet Aisha’s great-grandfather Hasan, played by Fawad Khan. The year is 1942, and everyone wants to fight the Britishers for a free India. Hasan meets Aisha; they fall in love, get married and have a daughter – Sana. The young Sana grows up to be Kamala Khan’s grandmother.
The episode shows us the truth about what happened on the night of partition at the train station, Aisha’s death and how Sana had the bangle with her. We also learn how Sana manages to reunite with her father Hasan at such an overcrowded train station. The episode ends with another cliffhanger featuring Bruno and Kamran.
The opening shot of Ms Marvel Episode 5 will give goosebumps to every Indian and Pakistani. It was the night of 1947 when India not only got freedom from the Britishmen but Pakistan as a nation was born. The episode helps us understand the feelings of Kamala’s grandmother, Sana, when she says, ‘My passport is Pakistani, and my roots are Indian.’
After bringing Farhan Akhtar’s character Waleed in episode 4, episode 5 treats us with another much-awaited appearance by Fawad Khan. The handsome and talented actor plays Hasan, Sana’s father. The entire sequence of the first meeting with Aisha till the separation at the train station is intriguing.

What I liked about the episode is how by keeping the magic secret in the background, the episode focused on what the Muslims in India were dealing with when the fear of separation started spreading. Fawad is exceptional throughout. I wish the makers had added more scenes featuring him. Mehwish Hayat as Aisha gives a good performance. Her character seemed very interesting. I wish there were more episodes where we learned more about Aisha and her time of the bangle.
Now, coming to how episode 4 ended and how it was carried forward in the fifth one. Kamala goes back to the night of partition because Aisha calls her using the bangle magic. Aisha requests Kamala to find Sana and reunite her with Hasan so they can take the train to Pakistan. Kamala pulls off a Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’s Expecto Patronum scene and helps Sana and Hasan.
Well, it was Kamala all along! Now we know about Aisha, the bangle and the family secret. However, the synopsis also says that we learn the truth about the veil. Sadly, we learn nothing major about the veil. After Kamala returns to the present time, a veil opens, and the Clandestine start walking inside it. Is it a portal through which they are going home? Possibly. But that’s all we know.

Najma, the woman who killed Aisha, Waleed and is now behind Kamala’s life, does something unexpected. It changes everything for Kamala and the series’ plot. We wonder how the makers will end the show with only one episode left.
Ms Marvel Episode 5 Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, the fifth episode was brilliant with its scenes from the past. However, everything in the present seems incomplete and doesn’t make much sense. We might understand what is really happening only when the last episode releases.
The episode is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
