Moving In With Malaika Episode 9 Review: A Tensed Family Lunch

Moving in With Malaika Episode 9 premiered on December 19, 2022, with a runtime of 27 minutes. The brand new reality show will centre around actress, model, dancer and VJ Malaika Arora. Created by Malaika herself, along with Banijay Asia, the show will give us an exclusive and up-close look at the life of the Indian celebrity.

The actress rose to fame for her appearance in the famous Bollywood song Chaiyyan Chaiyyan from the movie Dil Se.. along with Shah Rukh Khan. She has been in the public eye ever since, and her divorce from Arbaaz Khan, brother of Salmaan Khan, is one of the most talked about instances around the town. She has also been a victim of internet trolls following her dating news with Arjun Kapoor.

Hence, she has decided to take matters into her own hands and create a show that will show her true self.

Disney+ Hotstar description of the show reads:

ALL SET TO SHOWCASE HER TRUE SELF, MALAIKA WILL SHUT DOWN TROLLS IN HER QUINTESSENTIAL ARORA STYLE AS SHE OPENS UP ABOUT HER LIFE

Moving In With Malaika Episode 9: Homecoming

In this episode, Malaika’s son Arhaan Khan makes a lengthy appearance. His mother arranged a lunch date with the family in her house, including Malaika’s mother. Later in the episode, Amrita Arora, Malaika’s sister, also joined.

As usual, the lunch date was casual; everyone started sharing the details of their life. Arhaan has been busy exploring the world, and he often forgets to stay connected to his family, which is his mother’s major concern. She scolds him and tries to convince him to remain in contact at least once daily.

The afternoon had been going well when tensions between Amrita and Malaika suddenly arose due to differences in opinions. They stayed calm and composed during the ordeal, but things were being brought up one after the other, leading to deeper misunderstandings between the siblings. Things start to build up, and Amrita explodes.

Amrita lets out what had been bothering her for a very long time, creating a tiff between the sisters. The audience will also get to see the family dynamics of the Arora/Khan family. It gave us a deeper look at how confrontations and conflicts are dealt with within the family. Overall, the episode was unlike the others and did not seem scripted.

Moving In With Malaika Episode 9: Final Thoughts

Many problematic things were said in the episode, which left me uncomfortable. During lunch, Malaika casually made fatphobic remarks towards Amrita Arora, and it could be noticed that she was offended by it. When Amrita proceeded to express her detest towards the fatphobic jokes made towards her during the stand-up comedy by Malaika, her feelings were completely disregarded. It is important for creators, especially celebrities with a lot of influence, to be mindful of what they speak on a public platform, as it can affect the audience.

Despite the excruciatingly painful segment, this episode was by far the best. The conversations and emotions remained unfiltered and let the audience peek inside the real life of the celebrities. The audience will also get to know Arhaan and understand how the young adult has been dealing with his life and his parent’s divorce.
