-MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 28 Review and Recap Contains Spoilers-

Episode 28 continues the food truck challenge from the last episode. The 9 contestants were divided into 3 teams, first is the red team which consists of Nayanjyoti, Priyanka and Suvarna. Second is the blue team which consists of Gurkirat, Deepa and Santa while the third is the green team which includes Nazia, Priya and Sachin. They will have to run three different food trucks with different cuisines, randomly picked by them.

Team red picked Asian cuisine and decided to make a tropical drink, with mushroom bao for the veg option and chicken bao for the non-veg option. They also had prawn bibimbap noodles & chicken strips, and for dessert, they had a fruit cake. The blue team picked Mexican cuisine and decided to have watermelon mojito, loaded nachos, veg/non-veg burritos and churros with a mocha sauce on their menu.

The green team which had picked American cuisine, consisted of lemon iced tea and iced coffee, along with potato wedges, fried chicken with barbeque sauce, a corn cobb with mayo sauce and cupcakes as dessert.

As soon as the guests started coming in, the food trucks were lined up with customers wanting to buy the food. Team blue was quick enough to start serving the food they had already put out to sell and the green team was also following in the same steps, by attracting customers to come and buy the food.

The red team however refused to take any customers since their steamer was not working and the bao’s were not ready. Chef Vikas came up to their truck and advised them to serve whichever menu is ready so that they don’t get behind everyone else. The whole scene of customers yelling to get the food and the home cooks panicking to serve quickly was just pure chaos.

Some menu options were also sold out and they either had to make a new batch or take the dish off the menu. Along with it they also had to serve the whole menu to the judges. The blue team was the first one to present but at the first glance, the judges pointed out that the burrito was undercooked. Deepa had to get a new one made and replace.

Out of all the dishes, they liked the churros most while they found Nachos to be dry and flat. Also in the mojito, they didn’t muddle the mint leaves like it’s usually done and the burrito didn’t have a balance in taste. The next team to serve the judges was the green team. Similarly, their chicken was undercooked and the judges asked for a replacement.

Among their dishes, they really liked potato wedges and corn cobb, but their cold coffee was burnt and iced tea was alright. The red team was the only one that didn’t serve the judges on time and Chef Vikas had to visit their food truck to remind them and also give the members a pep talk to organise themselves.

When they finally served, the judges didn’t have high hopes but they liked the presentation and the taste of all the dishes equally. The tropical drink was well-liked too and they called it a toned-down version of pina colada. Soon after the judges collected the money boxes and the money which was not in the box was not counted.

Final Thoughts: MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 28

After counting all the money earned, team green was eliminated first with only 6800 in sales. In reality, they made almost 20 thousand but all of that was out of the box & kept in their kitchen and the judges didn’t count them. Leaving the red team with 14,000 in sales and the blue team with 18,000 in sales and making them the winner of the challenge.

However, the judges liked the red team’s food the best and declared the sticky chicken bao dish as the dish of the day.

Today was the most chaotic episode, from home cooks to the guests, nobody seemed to be in their right senses. Home cooks looked like they were just ripping off people to give them money somehow and serving just anything – even if it was uncooked. Some guests also looked like paid actors with terrible acting, especially the guy in a kimono shrug. The crowd is never so rowdy even at a food festival, where the dishes have been delayed for a long while.

I wonder if it even was a learning experience or just showed how much worse the contestants this season really is. If anything it proved that good marketing is what sells your food and restaurant. Even if you have the best food, if you can’t lure enough people to at least try your food, then you won’t reach the level of your competitors.

MasterChef India Season 7 is currently streaming on Sony LIV and a new episode is released from Monday to Friday at 9 PM.
