Things are about to get extremely complicated in the White House, and The Night Agent teaser shows exactly that. Based on the 2019 novel of the same name written by Matthew Quirk, the limited series will star Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan, Hong Chau, Sarah Desjardins, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Eve Harlow, Enrique Murciano, Phoeniz Raei and DB Woodside, alongside other cast members.
The Night Agent has been developed by Shawn Ryan along with Seth Gordon, who will be directing the first episode. There will be 10 episodes in the series, each ranging from about an hour. Netflix first acquired the rights to this book in July 2021. We start off the teaser by getting a glimpse of the agent who logs his card into a room at the White House.
Actually, his name is Peter, and he is a low-level FBI agent who has been given the task to man a phone that never rings. Except for one night, while he is doing some mundane task, it starts ringing and just after he says hello, the screen cuts to sequences that transpire after that. We see characters looming about, ready to strike and chaos that has been raining down in the White House after this call.

It is at this point a character notes that there is something more happening beyond this one phone call. A good example of that is the people making their way inconspicuously carrying loaded fireweapons waiting for their time to strike. People escaping and jumping from buildings, foot chases that end in violence, and some crazy missions assigned that keep the FBI awake all make this series extremely exciting to see.
Guessing by the people present in the teaser, they are dead set on reminding Peter that he is in way over his head. There are things he shouldn’t tamper with, but the worse has just happened. There are many questions that the teaser raises, including the reason why the phone rings in the first place, why they chose someone low-level to handle something so important and who needs to be involved when things actually go really wrong at the White House.
While this premise is extremely unique, the trope of the FBI agent not being equipped to handle something serious is something The Recruit also follows. That show was extremely light-hearted and chose to make humour out of the worst, however, this show is gearing up to be something intense and gritty. It works extremely well for the protagonist, who looks much like Richard Madden from The Bodyguard.
