MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 9 Review: It’s Flatbread’s Time to Shine

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 9 Review: After anticipating for months, the show premiered its fifteenth season with wonderful home cooks ready to win the grand title. On the judge’s panel, we have the previous season’s professional chefs, Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and late Jock Zonfrillo, back on the set to taste and deliver excellent critics. Surprisingly, it doesn’t stop with them because other professionals like Jamie Oliver will also be making cameos to test the contestants with their best.

The participating contestants are Adi Nevgi, Alice Han, Amy Tanner, Andrea Puglisi, Antonio Cruz Vaamonde, Brent Draper, Cath Collins, Declan Cleary, Grace Jupp, Jessica Perri, Larissa Sewell, Malissa Fedele, Phil Conway, Ralph Kahango, Rhiannon Anderson, Robbie Cooper, Rue Mupedzi and Theo Loizou.

Shannon Bennett joined the judges for the immunity pin challenge. Contestants Adi, Malissa, Declan, Jessica, Theo, Ralph, and Robbie took part in the immunity round for a challenge unknown. As soon as the participants entered, they saw grilling rotisserie chicken. The day’s challenge was to make use of the roasted chook and invent another dish that will top the list. The time given is 45 minutes, and the contestant with the best dish will have a chance to battle with a top chef to grab the pin.

The timer started, and the contestants started preparing their unique dishes. Declan made a Chicken Quesadilla, Malissa did a Chicken sandwich, Adi prepared Chicken butter masala, Theo stuck with a flatbread topped with Chicken and flavours, Robbie did a Malaysia Salad, Jessica went with a mushroom and chicken mixed death dish, and Ralph made a tough baked dish.

During the presentation, most of them got positive comments, but Adi’s cumin rice didn’t make the cut since it was undercooked, but her Chicken butter masala stole the show. At the end of the presentation, the winner of the immunity round was announced, and that was none other than Theo. His flatbread with shredded chicken topped with onions, tomatoes, and other ingredients built the entire flavour. He sure is a bread expert.

Moving on, the guest professional Chef Darren Robertson, the co-owner of Three Blue Ducks group, came to the show. In order to get the immunity pin, Theo had to beat the Chef with an exquisite dish. Since it is a blind taste round, the three judges left the room, leaving Shannon to guide the show.

There were three pantry stocks given with a specific timer attached to them. One had 5 ingredients and 90 minutes, the next 10 ingredients and 60 minutes, then the last had 20 ingredients and 30 minutes. The benefit for Theo is that he gets to choose which pantry Darren should use. Theo chose the one with 10 ingredients on 60 minutes stock and assigned Darren the 20 ingredients 30 minutes shelf.

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 9 Review: Was the Win Fair?

The timer ticked, and the chefs started preparing. Darren took his time and analyzed his pantry well. Meanwhile, Theo started his preparation rapidly. Theo decided to make an apple tart filled with lemon custard while Darren went with making a whole Barramundi with pickled cabbage, flatbread and mango chilli vinegar. Once the timer ended, Theo was shocked to see Darren’s whole dish made only in 30 minutes. Indeed Darren is a professional.

The judges loved the Apple tart but were stoked when they tasted the Barramundi. As expected Darren won the show. Nevertheless, Theo is still safe from the upcoming elimination round. So a win is a win.
