The contestants who were recovering from Covid-19 are back on the show, and their first elimination round ignited. For today’s episode, we have the winner of the 2020 MasterChef Australia Back to Win pastry expert Emelia Jackson with her secret challenge. Emelia is an excellent baker who is well known for her amazing Choux recipe. That said, the contestants were given the task of preparing a Choux with a spin to impress the judges.
Among the contestants, three of them with the least favoured dishes will move to the second round, where one contestant will be eliminated. The rule is that if the contestant who has made a sweet Choux in the first round moves to the second round, they will have to present a savoury Choux. Thankfully, each of the contestants were given the recipe sheet of Emelia’s Choux to get started.

The timer clicked, and the cooks gathered their ingredients. The garden and the pantry were open to them to collect ingredients. Many cooks immediately started their Choux, while some had a tough time. Especially, Rhiannon kept stirring her ingredients, but it didn’t sit well, and by that time, the other cooks already proceeded with putting up their Choux mixture in the oven.
On the other hand, the highlight of the day is Larissa’s idea. While all the contestants decided to go with a sweet Choux, Larissa came up with fried chicken stuffed inside a Choux. Though the idea was great her sauce flopped the dish entirely. Sadly she moved to the second round.

Not only was her dish the talk of the show, but also how Cath’s Choux idea won their hearts. Right when the judges tasted her dish they were gobsmacked and gave her an applaud. After that, Jock asked her to move to the gantry straightaway because her Choux was so well done that she deserved a direct win.
When the presentation ended, as expected, Alice, Larissa, and Rhiannon moved to the elimination round. Rhiannon’s Choux was underbaked, Larissa’s sauce made a mess, and Alice’s matcha tea idea didn’t blend well. In the second round, both Rhiannon and Alice had to make a savoury Choux idea, while Larissa had to make a sweet one.
Rhiannon wanted to show her Mexican routes and brilliantly executed a long Choux stuffed with Mexican flavours that touched the judges’ hearts. Alice gave a mini-bite presentation of Choux filled with caramelized onion and eggs that again won the judges. Sadly, Larissa’s sweet Choux with lime filling didn’t make the cut. Hence she was eliminated. But luckily, since she won the second chance apron in one of the previous episodes, she has another chance to get back on the show.

MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 7 Review: Final Thoughts
Larissa often said that her strength is savoury food and not sweet ones. Her first idea of fried chicken between the Choux was brilliant, but if only she hadn’t applied the sauce, I think she would have been saved. Sadly in the second round, she had to make a sweet Choux which isn’t her best side. So, Larissa was sent home. But thankfully, she has another chance, and she surely deserves it.
