MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 12 Review: After anticipating for months, the show premiered its fifteenth season with wonderful home cooks ready to win the grand title. On the judge’s panel, we have the previous season’s professional chefs, Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and late Jock Zonfrillo, back on the set to taste and deliver excellent critics. Surprisingly, it doesn’t stop with them because other professionals like Jamie Oliver will also be making cameos to test the contestants with their best.
The participating contestants are Adi Nevgi, Alice Han, Amy Tanner, Andrea Puglisi, Antonio Cruz Vaamonde, Brent Draper, Cath Collins, Declan Cleary, Grace Jupp, Jessica Perri, Larissa Sewell, Malissa Fedele, Phil Conway, Ralph Kahango, Rhiannon Anderson, Robbie Cooper, Rue Mupedzi and Theo Loizou.

For today’s pressure test, Larissa, Declan, and Theo were competing to evade elimination. The judges invited Eddie Steward, a pastry expert who has been in the field for more than 20 years. He is also the owner of Tokyo Lamington with outlets all around Australia. For the pressure test, he brought in a lamington tower consisting of five different types.
He cut every single of them and there were layers of flavours within. First up in the tower was the milk-flavoured lamington with custard filling, vanilla sponge cake, and a coating of white chocolate coconut shavings. The second one was a snicker lamington, filled with caramel peanut layer, milk chocolate mouse, and vanilla sponge cake coated with chocolate and peanut pieces.

The third one was a strawberry matcha loaded with strawberry mouse and matcha flavor white chocolate shavings. The fourth lamington was a smoked meringue with curd filling and vanilla whipped cream. The final lamington included vanilla sponge cake induced with pumpkin puree, coated with white chocolate, and overlayered with charcoal coconut shavings.
After tasting all five of the lamingtons and seeing the number of different flavours each one of them had, I indeed knew this will put a lot of pressure on the contestants. They were given five hours to replicate the lamington tower. Thankfully, they were given the recipe and the ingredients. The timer started and the contestants as usual rushed to prepare.

Throughout the episode, Larissa was the most stressed and it was evident she was going out. Her flavours didn’t come out well and her mixtures kept failing. Her sponge cake looked fine but her coatings didn’t make the cut. She almost gave up, cried, and experienced a burnout when her caramel didn’t sit well.

Theo on the other hand was working very chill. He kept the preparation process steady and sturdy. Declan also was similarly acting calm but somehow when he cut the spongecake he messed up with the proportions. It is after this point he became stressed and started to lose his cool.

The moment came and each of the contestants’ lamingtown tower was tasted. Theo’s impressed the judges because his preparation was identical to that of Eddie Stewart. Secondly, Declan’s flavours and cake worked well but his proportions and coating felt a tiny bit off. However, the judges overall loved his outcome.
Finally, they tasted Larissa’s tower which looked distant from the original. Her snickers lamington looked like chocolate-coated cake rolled over grounded peanuts. The flavours didn’t come out well and her texture was off. The judges then came out to the main kitchen to announce the results. They congratulated Theo and saved him first. Then they spoke about Declan’s preparation which was more than enough to point out that Larissa is going back home once again. She shared her farewell message and they all sent her from the show with warm messages.
MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 12 Review: Final Thoughts
When Larissa won her chance back into the kitchen, there was a tweet that I read where the user stated Larissa won’t last long because if a contestant was eliminated, they were sent home for a reason. After seeing her performance in today’s test, indeed she was eliminated back then because of her poor time management skills.

In yesterday’s episode, she wasted time thinking about the sauce and in today’s she was too hasty that when her caramel didn’t work out well, she didn’t focus on other aspects but started to worry about the caramel. Nevertheless, she is a fantastic cook but this isn’t her place.
Thankfully, the 12th episode was fabulous compared to the last two episodes. So kudos! You can watch MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 12 now on Disney+ Hotstar. If you’ve watched the recent episode, let us know what you feel about the challenges given to the contestants.
