Martha is Netflix’s latest documentary on the legendary Martha Stewart who redefined homemaking and what a woman can do in the world. This is a film featuring the legend herself as she speaks about her journey from a girl in a small town in New Jersey to becoming the first female self-made billionaire in American history. A journey that came crumbling at the hands of men, she made her return with her wit, charm, and a vision that was perfect.

Starting with a glimpse of Martha Stewart’s “perfectly perfect” life that she created for herself, the documentary takes us on a journey through the ups and downs of the businesswoman’s life. The small town where her life began, the people who influenced her, the careers she followed, the empire she built, and her downfall, everything is beautifully shown in this documentary that speaks her story from her point of view. Accompanied by her casual remarks, this film shows her influence on the world that it is today.

The documentary itself is beautiful as it follows the life of a young woman who made it out into the world with a vision. She fulfilled the vision and brought a change that filled a void that was clearly out there but only visible to a few like her. This film does bring a very positive light on her and shows her as a woman who always knows how to rise back. It also showed her struggles in a world of men, be it when working on Wall Street or as a businesswoman whose company went public.

The documentary is capable of influencing women out there positively while telling them that even something as simple as homemaking is an art. I have especially loved how she never stopped doing and learning something, which is what makes her who she is. The documentary is capable of inspiring many through her and the flow with which it went by was done well.

Coming to the trial that became a big part of the documentary, it has shown the male-dominant society bringing a woman down with its words. There is no denying this message and how fragile the ego can be for some. This part of the documentary makes you see the harsh reality that is not easy to survive. Meanwhile, it is also quite true that focusing on the trial that collapsed her empire isn’t something we think she’d like.

On the other hand, the comments of various people associated with her story that were played throughout the documentary added another touch of reality to the story. While Martha herself carries the film very gracefully, I have personally loved her nonchalant attitude throughout the documentary that she carries with grace. Additionally, the personal touches brought by the letters and interviews from those around her are another reason why this was such a wonderful watch.

She is an icon today and seeing her rise towards the end of the film showed the strength that she has held throughout her life. The original influencer, as we know today, the documentary highlights the way she has changed homes. But it also leaves us with the question of how much more she could’ve achieved if not for the way she was brought down from her throne. A sad and regretful thought for the woman who influenced many across the world.

Summing Up

Martha 2024 is the story of the first influencer, the first female self-made billionaire, the first woman who had her company go public, and the target of many who couldn’t see her rise. She is a woman who made it through it all and this is a documentary that will inspire you to make a change like she did. This is a film you wouldn’t want to miss simply because it is about Martha Stewart.
