Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 3 Review- Discover The Abyss

With the risk of running this bit to the ground, the horror that this show is able to emanate is second to none. With a single line at the end of the previous episode, the show managed to invoke a feeling of sheer terror and unknowingness that can be replicated in no other place. It was a single line that worked because we know the kind of crimes the show is capable of. We haven’t forgotten Mitty, or Prushka, or Riko’s arm, or whatever Bodrewd was. We know that nothing good can come off of what the show has in plan for Reg, Riko, and Nanachi.

Not only that, but we know that the threat is extremely capable of inflicting serious harm to the trio because they were able to infiltrate and steal Prushka and their hair (?) from them so easily without them ever catching a whiff. They also put it inside a creature and sealed its butt shut, which is a weird show of strength but an effective one nonetheless. Each layer has seen an increase in the level of danger so far, and because the sixth one hasn’t looked that bad so far, you just know that things are going to get extremely bad very soon, and statements like that only enhance that paranoia.

The latest episode did nothing to ease that feeling and might have just increased it by a lot. The society of the hollows is peaceful and free from harm from a distance, but there is an uncanny valley feeling that is hard to shake off. You know who these people are because we already have encountered hollows before and know what they had to sacrifice to become that way. Their society here is gorgeous and pleasing to the eyes, and you already know that. I do not need to spell it out for you if you have been watching this series from the beginning.

The vaguely capitalistic society rules were extremely intriguing, and you can tell they are going to lead to something extraordinary by the end of this arc. Riko, Reg, and Nanachi are all going to suffer in their own way, and even Meinya isn’t safe this time around. The show is highly successful at shifting its gears from serious to lighthearted and the other way around extremely quickly. A very good incidence of that was seen here, which we won’t spoil because we don’t do that here. Just know that you shouldn’t trust anything or anyone in this show.

Made In Abyss is also very good at animation and character design, which often gets forgotten because the music is so good that it receives all the production praise. The show’s worldbuilding is beyond anything present in any current anime and is beautiful to look at despite the horrors that lie within. The golden city and layer six have been very easy on the eyes so far, and the complementary music has been great, as always. This was another promising outing for one of the greatest shows of the previous decade and what appears to be this one.
Verdict
Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 3 was another tremendous outing that managed to evoke several different emotions consecutively and successfully while telling a gripping story.
