Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 16 Review: In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 16, Toji Fushiguro and Megumi finally come face to face. The sixteenth episode titled “Thunderclap” of the anime series premiered on November 9, 2023. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (呪術廻戦 or Sorcery Fight) is directed by Sunghoo Park, the show is animated under MAPPA Studio. With Sayaka Koiso and Tadashi Hiramatsu designing the characters, Yoshimasa Terui is the sole composer of the series. Tatsuya Kitani performed the opening theme, Where Our Blue Is (青のすみか), while Soushi Sakiyama performed the ending theme, Light (燈).
The anime is scheduled for two cours, the first five episodes adapted the manga’s Hidden Inventory arc, and the upcoming eighteen other episodes will showcase the Shibuya arc. Licensed under Crunchyroll, the episodes will be available with English subtitles, and the dubbed version will be released later on.
Based on the manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami, the story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers in order to kill a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. However, the new season will consist of various aspects of the story which the audience has been wondering about. Each episode has a runtime of 20-25 minutes.

The new episode is nothing short of a cinematic experience in its truest form. From emotionally charged scenes to phenomenal battle sequences which will give everyone an instant adrenaline boost. Many new characters are getting introduced into the series, making the plot more complex yet interesting at the same time.
One of the stand-out aspects of the series is none other than the battle sequence between Jogo and Sukuna. It is always exciting to watch when two villains face each other to prove who is the better one, solely to prove their greatness. Fuelled by the desire to become the most feared, the two engage in an epic fight that will stay with one long after the credits roll.
However, the fight is beyond a physical one, it is also an ideological one where they briefly talk about their ambitions and motivations. While Jogo remembers his friends, Hanami and Dagon, whom he feels like he has let down by not fulfilling their desire to establish curses as the society’s rulers, Sukuna feels the opposite. He says that Jogo should have destroyed everything on his way and that is how he would gain true freedom. Although the two of them are similar, it is their core principle that sets them apart from each other.
On the other hand, the first and final encounter between Toji and his only son, Megumi will move the audience. It gives us a short glimpse of Toji’s past life and what led him to make some of the harsh decisions. Introduced in the series as a villain, Toji’s presence significantly changed throughout and so did his place in the story. The creator’s ability to constantly develop a character throughout the episode is one of the notable aspects.
The animation of the battle sequences plays a key role in the storytelling process. Each frame is meticulously crafted to display a magnificent fight which will go down in history as one of the most incredible ones in the anime community. From the use of show motion to different camera angles and intentional change of screen ratio to provide an immersive experience, everything is done to perfection.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 16 Review: Final Thoughts
The series constantly raises its standard with each chapter both visually and thematically. Not just the addition of incredible battle sequences but also substantial elements essential to the plot. It is undoubtedly one of the best episodes to air so far. Moreover, it ends on a cliffhanger which increases the anticipation among fans for the next one further.
