Releasing their latest mini album on July 31, 2023, at 6PM KST, the JYP Entertainment girl group is once again reeling in applause in the form of all positive ITZY Cake MV reactions. The 4th Generation quintet’s seventh EP is titled KILL MY DOUBT, and consists of 6 songs that have been accompanied by 3 music videos during this comeback season.
While Cake is the leading single of the tracklist, Bet On Me and None of My Business were pre-released with their supporting music videos before the actual album release date. ITZY members – Yeji (leader), Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna – have consistently explored themes of empowerment and self-confidence through their vast discography since their K-pop debut in 2019. Embracing the thought of evidently respective differences in everyone’s personalities, they’ve often dug up a sparkly and bright conversation around self-esteem and its related issues.
Yet again, pushing thoughts of insecurities and self-doubt, nervous energies and anxieties away, the group is back with a musical record that is bound to uplift your spirits. The lyrics and choreography of the leading single have melted the audiences by validating their troubles and lending them a comforting embrace despite its boom-bastic audio experience. Taking back their 4th Gen crown, the “Summer Queens” have belted out touching words stating, “It’s not easy anyway/ Up to you, everyday/ Instead of worrying/ Just focus on yourself now”, leading many fans of the group known as MIDZYs to proclaim that “the cake was served well”.
Resorting to a funkier Gen-Z lingo, netizens also referred to the song as a banger, and the members as “mothers”, channelling deep-rooted admiration for their art and words. Yuna’s initiating dance move has particularly caught the eye of the viewers, who couldn’t stop themselves from tweeting an endless stream of praises in her name. Obsessed with the impact left behind by the group, the fans also pointed out how their musicality has evolved over the years since their debut.
Some of their comebacks haven’t been met with an accepting consensus in the recent times due to their eccentric and out-of-the-box soundscape. However, MIDZYs instantly shut the door on any such hate-spewing words before the conversation brought the group’s name down. Many YouTube comments have also been left in favour of the group members, lauding them for their “edgy and elegant” efforts.
The new album’s pre-releases captured the essence of the musical tone the quintet was going for. Bet on Me MV was released on July 3, while the None of My Business video came out on July 24, i.e. a week before the third and final MV of Cake. Other songs included on the EP are Bratty (나쁜애), Psychic Lover and Kill Shot, which have equally got the fans grooving along to their beat and the members’ mesmerisingly shocking vocals.
