Ishq Next Door Episode 4 Recap
Dev, from the balcony, watches Ashwin sprinkling water on his father. He smiles at their interaction and gets back inside his home. When Chuttan comes with his exam sheet, Dev doesn’t react strictly but encourages Chuttan to perform well on the board exam. Chuttan feels that Dev lately hasn’t been hitting him or being firm as usual (this is probably due to Dev feeling bad for Chuttan, who didn’t get to experience a fatherly figure).
When Dev leaves for the office wearing a new shirt, Meher spots him and compliments him. She asks him to roll his sleeve, but he gives a petty reason and drives away, only to stop in the middle of the road and roll his sleeves. In the next scene, Ashwin drops by Meher’s boutique to collect his mother’s dress. Over there, he shares to Meher about his NGO plan.

Apparently, he wishes to start an NGO with a loan despite being offered a job with 18 lakhs CTC in a company. Ashwin explains his situation to Meher, and the latter suggests he seek Dev for help. Since Dev is working in a bank and is a loan specialist, she believes he will aid. But due to the fact that Ashwin has beef with Dev, he rejects the suggestion. Meher pushes him to move forward because, according to her, Dev isn’t a man who holds grudges.

Meher joins Ashwin and visits Dev at the bank, and starts explaining about the loan help. A jealous Dev doesn’t concentrate much on the loan idea but simply stares at Meher as she speaks. Meher notices Dev’s rolled-up sleeves, and the shy guy gives yet another petty reason.
After the two leave, Dev calls his colleague and asks her to send Ashwin’s file to the “Not Approved” section. The colleague asks Dev about the two as she has her eyes on Ashwin (chances are there for Ashwin to find out about Dev’s actions through the colleague). At home, Chuttan expects a spank from his brother upon reaching late, but Dev simply smiles at him with a cream smeared face.

Chuttan goes to his mom and rants about Dev’s weird personality only to get a spank from her (a cute mom-and-son interaction, though). In the bedroom, Dev, out of the blue, speaks fondly to Chuttan, and the younger boy understands that his brother wants to know about Meher. Chuttan suggests that Dev should grab the opportunity and impress her because Meher doesn’t have feelings for Ashwin.
The next day, Ashwin asks Dev for an update, and he responds with a lie. After Dev’s work ends, he receives a call from Meher, who has some errands to run. Dev picks her up, and on their way to the destination, they both exchange stories. Meher asks Dev about his past relationships, and he states that he has had none. He, however, opens up about his crush’s tale to Meher.

Then Meher asks Dev about Ashwin’s loan and opens up about Ashwin’s deceased parents. She realises that Dev doesn’t know the truth and explains to him about Ashwin’s situation. A perplexed Dev then visits Ashwin and asks him to come to the bank the next day. Ashwin invites Dev for a drink inside, and the two talk about Ashwin’s parents.

Then, Ashwin starts opening up about Meher and their past relationship. He also states that Meher still has feelings for him and shows an old love letter from Meher. Dev catches the romantic photo of them both inside the letter and rushes out of Ashwin’s house. He then smokes a cigarette, thinking about Meher and his love’s end.
Ishq Next Door Episode 4 Review
Chuttan and Dev’s interactions, as usual, are hilarious. Purav Jha has really took efforts to sound and act like a younger brother in an Indian household. The habit of coming home late, being scared of the older sibling, sharing dating tips, etc., are all typical Indian tiny brothers traits.
Apart from him, Abhay Mahajan is doing an excellent job as a responsible introvert man. Every action and expression of his feels natural, and he is such a good fit for this role. Also, a shoutout to the cinematography and editing team because though the locations of the series look simple, the team has shown them in the best way. One can give the team a tiny budget, and I’m sure they’ll still pull off a great series.

So far, the series is light-hearted, warm and breezy. There are subtle yet relatable funny moments, emotional storylines, a cute romance going on between a shy guy and a bright girl, an annoying love triangle, sibling fights, and such. Hopefully, the upcoming episodes will also keep the viewers entertained and not add unnecessary characters to the plot.
