Intimacy (Intimidad), a Spanish political drama series was released on Netflix on 10 June 2022. Foreign language content on the platform has been getting much attention and praise for its intriguing storylines. Such one interesting series with a take on the modern-era social issues is Intimacy.
The series is created by Verónica Fernández and Laura Sarmiento. Directed by Jorge Torregrossa, Ben Gutteridge, Marta Font, and Koldo Almandoz.
The series follows the story of a rising politician whose career is threatened when a surreptitiously recorded video of her sex life is leaked to the public. Its creators try to depict a story about the image we choose to project and its mismatch with reality.
Often times the line between the public and private life gets blurred and the consequences followed after that are disastrous for the one involved.
The cast of Intimacy includes Itziar Ituño (La Casa de Papel) as Malen Zubiri, Emma Suárez as Miren, Patricia López Arnaiz as Bego, Verónica Echegui as Ane, Ana Wagener as Alicia and Yune Nogueiras as Leire. Intimacy Season 2: Has Netflix Renewed the Spanish Drama?
Currently, there are no reports or rumours regarding the renewal of the political series. But I guess it is too soon to speculate anything as the series has just dropped on the platform and after reviewing the audience reaction and viewer ratings of the show, the creators might take the story forward.
Although, the series has been getting good reviews from critics, which call it an important and compelling thriller depicting the modern era.
As we saw in the end that Malen Zubiri is back in the political race for the position of Mayor and was putting up posters for her electoral campaign. There seems to be potential for more drama, as her opponents might try to find more dirt on her to drag her out of the candidate list.
In season one, when Alfredo (Malen’s husband) left home after her video scandal, he was living a reckless life with heavy drinking and sleeping with anyone.
These actions could come biting at Malen’s way, now that he is back with her, as anyone could accuse him or use his actions to degrade Malen. Even the violent case of her daughter, Leire, where she knocked out her ex-boyfriend, was dealt with low-key and could become an issue later.
In a society which gives high regard to family values, the topic of an open marriage might become a hot debate surrounding in context of her marriage.
Now that we have also learnt that she even hit her mother in an incident once, but don’t know the details of it, this premise could be explored in the next season.
