Intimacy Ending Explained: Who Leaks The Video?

As we saw at the start of the series, Ane walks into the sea and drowns herself. Meanwhile, Malen Zubiri, who is the deputy mayor of Bilbao and is soon to be declared the candidate for the mayor seat. However, one day her sex tape with an unidentified man is released on social media. Who is later revealed to be César Barretxeguren, a prominent businessman’s youngest son, who she met on a dating app without knowing his real identity.

But for the public, it is a topic of gossip and shame as Malen’s married to Alfredo, but their marriage has been rocky for a long time, as they live in separate rooms and had agreed to an open marriage. The video leaks prove to be a major setback for her career and image. Soon she gets introduced to detective Alicia and Bego (Ane’s sister) as they are investigating Ane’s death. However, even with Alicia’s persistent urge to Malen to file a report, she doesn’t want to pursue it for fear of maligning her image.

Although Alfredo feels emasculated, their daughter, Leire, suffers from despair and assaults her ex-boyfriend, believing he uploaded their sex video to the internet. Through the course of the series, things eventually get out as César ends up dead after being accused of leaking the sex video and on the other side, Bego is trying hard to find enough evidence that would get her justice in court.

Intimacy series ending explained

Now to answer the question in everyone’s mind – who leaked Malen and César’s video? The culprit is Andoni Segurola (Mikel Tello) a businessman in her cabinet, who had harboured a grudge against the aspiring mayor ever since she announced plans to further regulate the real estate market. He was actually friends with César, who was in a lot of debt and in the desperate times agreed to secretly film them getting intimate to extort money from Malen later.

However, even he didn’t know that it would be publicised like that which leads to his family leaving him and he doesn’t even get the money that was promised, leading to his death eventually. Now coming to Ane’s case, as speculated the ex-boyfriend Jon was the one who sent the pictures and images of the orgy to the head of the factory, who shared it with everyone. Alicia had a dangerous encounter while searching for Jon but eventually catches him who later spills the name of the spreader (the head) and he gets arrested as well.

Towards the end, Malen finally reports the case which leads to Andoni Segurola’s indictment on charges of murder of César. She even resigns from her post to get back to her previous job as a lawyer. But fate has other plans, as her party members plead for her to come back as their candidate for Mayor because the other candidate Gorka, also resigned. In the end, Malen Zubiri is seen putting up posters for her electoral campaign.

Apart from the future mayor, Alicia also comes around to accepting her sexuality in public as she plans IVF treatment with her girlfriend. Bego is finally free from the case and can let go of Ane for a better afterlife, as she also tries to live her life to the fullest. And lastly, Leire accepts her fault and promises to get into therapy.

The series ended on a relatively positive note as the characters look forward to their lives after being in the invisible prison of shame, guilt and regret. But could there be something more to come as Malen is finally running for mayor, in another season maybe?
