Insomniacs After School is a romance and drama anime based on a manga written and illustrated by Makoto Ojiro. The series is animated by Studio LIDENFILMS and is also known as Kimisomu Episode 4 and Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia Episode 4 in original Japanese.
The Astronomy Club suffered a terrible tragedy when one of its members committed suicide some time ago. The club and where they used to work, the observatory, are all lying empty without use. It is the perfect scenario for two outsiders who don’t know a better use for their time to accidentally meet and go on a journey that would change their lives forever. They haven’t lived much of their lives, to begin with, so it’s not that big of a deal.
Grumpy insomniac Ganta Nakami stumbles across the moderately rebellious yet easygoing Isaki Magari in the Astronomy Club’s abandoned observatory. Magari is surprised and tries to avoid a confrontation, only to be stopped by a broken door, forcing the two of them inside. The two forge an unlikely friendship, leading them to use the observatory as a safe space for them to interact and discuss the one thing that ails them both- inability to sleep.

All that’s left to do is to work towards it and make plans for it, both of which aren’t easy for people like Isaki and Ganta, who only came into this because they wanted a place to sleep in. Worry not, as they have now found someone who can help them with this.

Yui is the latest character introduced to the show who has been a ray of light in the darkness of space that we were seeing before. Not because there was any particular problem. We just didn’t know how to focus the camera enough to get the light in. In all her lone wolf-ish charm, Yui is someone who is also looking for companionship, and Ganta and Isaki just might be what she needs to come out of her shell.
