Tell Me Lies Episode 4: Take Off Your Pants and Jacket

As the title of the episode suggests, Tell Me Lies Episode 4 is really mostly about sex and the cravings surrounding it. Lucy continues to see Stephen but, is sure that he is hooking up with other people. Although she tries to put it across, Stephen is manipulative enough to not let her get the upper hand and ultimately makes her a submissive to their sexual relationship.

Lucy is clearly getting more emotionally involved than one should and it is so clearly reflected in the fourth episode that you want to shout her out of her sense and make her see through. But, alas, the audience can only witness the confusing affinity evergrowing.

Wrigley and Pippa’s relationship does not take much screen time in this episode but, it is confusing enough in regards to how they are managing to keep such a huge secret about Macy’s death under wraps. As for our virgin queen, Bree, she finally gets it over with but, the inner turmoil she faces is understandable and how she is really unable to speak about it, relatable.

Tell Me Lies Episode 4 does a good job is setting forward the relationships and the dynamics that will play out in the long term. It is still frustrating for the readers of the book to watch Lucy’s eating disorder not take a frontline but, maybe with Stephen’s behind-the-back doings, it will soon manifest onto the screen.

Lucy’s codependency on Stephen is also another thing that needs more clarification as it is difficult to gauge what our protagonist is going through as she is shut off, in general. We do not get to know Lucy beyond what her friends and Stephen know of her which is becoming frustrating. A possible voiceover could make things more clear for the audience to not feel disjointed with the main character in the long run.

The best part about the screenplay in Tell Me Lies Episode 4 has to be about Bree, how she lost her virginity and what she feels about it. The mainstream representation of sex is usually so extravagant that it misses the entire relatability factor. However, with Bree’s help Tell Me Lies is able to put forward the underwhelming aspects regards to losing one’s virginity and how sex feels different for different people.

Knowing how the third episode left us on the cliffhanger of how Macy’s images were present on Stephen’s computer, this episode should have really played more on those lines. Macy’s death seems to have become a trivial point in this episode which should not have been the case because it is deeply rooted in certain outcomes of the eventual storyline. But, of course, we have to wait hungrily for the big exposition to come to us soon.

Tell Me Lies Episode 4: Final Thoughts

Overall, Tell Me Lies Episode 4 was well-scripted and laid out. It shifted a little from Lucy to give Bree a little light to shine, which seemed important. It was also able to highlight the long-term foundation that Lucy and Stephen’s relationship might soon become, prepping the audiences for something harrowing and devasting. We surely did not linger on this episode by switching between the past and the present and, if Evan and Bree’s interaction linked us to the wedding, it would have been really sweet.

  1. Just finished episode 4. The very fact that he ejaculates inside Lucy every single time but uses condoms with Diana’s gives a narrative of his concern for Diana but seeing Lucy as a mere object of his lust whereas Lucy sees him more than just a dick(which he is)
Feeling bad for Lucy’s vulnerability in love. She surrenders herself to Stephen completely- physically and even mentally(he even gaslights her)- so far as to go on the contraceptive pill so that Stephen can enjoy her in all possible ways and flood semen deep inside her vagina every time. This man doesn’t deserve that pleasure having fucked around with Diana(for whom he is concerned and “uses condoms”) but uses Lucy as a cumdump to satisfy all his lust for her curves. I hope she leaves him to find a man who not only fills her insides with semen but also fills her heart with joy and care. Hoping she doesn’t catch an STD after all that unprotected intercourse
