How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5 brings another man into Sophie’s life. The different storylines of each character keep getting built, and we’re still unsure about who the father is. This episode is pretty special since we have huge character development in Jesse. The sitcom creator is Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and it serves as a standalone sequel to everyone’s favourite show from the early 2000s- How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM).
We see the return of Hilary Duff as Sophie, Chris Lowell as Jesse, Francia Raisa as Valentina, Suraj Sharma as Sid, Tom Ainsley as Charlie, Tien Tran as Ellen and Kim Cattrall as the future Sophie. We will also see Ashley Reyes as Hannah, Leighton Meester as Meredith, Josh Peck as Drew, Meaghan Rath as Parker, Michael McDonald as Warren, Jessica St Clair as Megan, Morgan Smith as Alice and Stony Blyden as Jasper. In addition to the old cast, we have Mark Consuelos, Constance Marie, Michael Cimino and John Corbett joining the cast for the new season.
The fifth episode of the show’s second season is called Ride or Die. It is directed by Pamela Fryman and written by Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger. The runtime for the episode is 21 minutes.

– How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5 Recap and Review Contains Spoilers –
The episode starts with Meredith and Jesse promoting the music tour on a TV show. Meredith and Jesse look all lovey-dovey but it’s soon realised that they’re being asked to do it by the PR team. Watching them both on the show makes Jesse’s friends happy; however, Sid is completely disinterested since he knows Meredith isn’t truly loving Jesse.
All the friends go on the music tour, but Sid stays back. On route to the tour, Val and Sophie visit Val’s parents. Val, who denies going to her parent’s home since they always try to set her up with someone, accepts this time since Sophie affirms that there won’t be any guy. However, there is a guy set up by Val’s parents, not for Val but for Sophie.
Val’s parents tell their daughter she’s not worthy of Oscar, which makes Val extremely pissed. She has a small argument with Sophie before realising that her parents purposely did this to make Val competitive. Hence, Val, Sophie and the guy, Oscar, plan a small skit to turn the coin around. Successfully, Val’s parents get surprised and admit the truth. After the chaos, Oscar shows his interest in Sophie and we have another man now in her life.
Meanwhile, Charlie and Ellen have already reached the tour area. Charlie explains his plan to join Jesse and Sid, to which Ellen says he isn’t as smart as he thinks. Shortly after Ellen witnesses Jesse and Meredith’s fake romance, she explains that he is being used, but he doesn’t bother.
When Meredith’s team reveals her music video, which includes Jesse’s traumatic proposal video, he asks her to remove it. It is evident that Meredith doesn’t care about Jesse’s feelings but is simply using him for fame.
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5 Ending
Unlike Charlie’s imagination, where Sid would come running to see Jesse after eating the cookies he sent, something terrible happens. As the cookies include walnuts, Sid becomes extremely sick and tries to find his EpiPen, which Charlie actually steals for a dumb reason. On the verge of dying, Sid somehow gets saved by the medics.
On the other side, Jesse confronts Meredith. When he soon realizes that he’s used for the tour promotion, he breaks up with her and seeks Sid to apologise. Sid and Jesse meet, and they have a telepathic conversation. It is then revealed to Charlie how deadly his plan became since Sid almost died. The episode ends with the team happily united.
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 5: Final Thoughts
The episode is beautiful since we witness the friendship between Val, Sophie and Sid and Jesse. Additionally, in Sophie’s life, Jesse once again might return. At the same time, Sid’s relationship isn’t at its best, so he might also end up heartbroken. Overall, the father of Sophie’s son could be Jesse, Sid, Charlie, Oscar, Ian or another new character whom we might have a glance at in the future.
