-House of the Dragon Episode 6 Recap/Review Contains Some Spoilers-

Previously, we saw that Daemon murders his wife, Lady Rhea Royce. And on the other hand, Rhaenyra and Ser Laenor Velaryon are betrothed. Understanding Laenor’s homosexuality, Rhaenyra proposes fulfilling their duty to produce heirs, and then take lovers; she rejects Ser Criston’s wish to run away together.

Before leaving King’s Landing, Ser Otto warns Queen Alicent that Rhaenyra becoming queen makes Alicent’s children a threat to the crown. Alicent questions Ser Criston about Rhaenyra and Daemon, only to learn Criston was the princess’s lover. During the king’s speech at a celebratory feast, Alicent enters the hall purposefully wearing a green gown, the signal colour for House Hightower’s call to arms.

Ser Gerold Royce confronts Daemon, claiming he murdered his cousin, Lady Rhea. Daemon denies it and demands he inherit his wife’s property. Laenor’s lover, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth, surmises Criston is Rhaenyra’s paramour. When Joffrey smugly suggests guarding each other’s secrets, Criston becomes enraged, perceiving his words as a threat, and brutally kills him.

Rhaenyra and Laenor are privately wed later that night, and Alicent intervenes as Criston is about to kill himself. But in the latest episode, as we take a leap of ten years, we get to know that Rhaenyra already has two sons and gives birth to another. However, it’s pretty evident that they are not born from her marriage with Laenor, as they dont have the symbolic silver hair.

Alicent has grown up to be wary of the princess and wants to reveal the truth about her children, however, the king turns a blind eye and asks her to not indulge in it as well. Surprisingly, the knight who was asking the princess to run away with him is now a sworn enemy and hates every gut of her.

He has switched his side to Queen Alicent and joined the Kingsguard. Both of them have found a common ground – the hatred for Rhaenyra and that also reflects in how Ser Criston treats her children and the King’s sons. We got to see some tidbits about what the young Targaryen are like from a mischievous Aegon to a power-seeking Aemond.

We also got introduced to the new dragons, Vermax, which is Jacaerys’ dragon, Sunfyre – Aegon’s dragon and Vhagar – Lady Laena’s dragon, who is also happily married to Daemon. At this point, it seems that the characters are struggling to find their foot in King’s Landing and where they see themselves.

The emergence of a new enemy by the end of the episode will definitely lead to some new actions and consequences, that will set the events for the future motion. It is refreshing to see Alicent Hightower, standing tall for herself and domineering her powers but she could still be blinded by her jealousy and hate for the princess, which will lead to bad consequences and deaths.

Summing Up: House of the Dragon Episode 6

House of the Dragon Episode 6 introduced us to the mature versions of the younger characters that we grew fond of in the last few episodes, but the adult actors have found their footing for the most part. Many things have happened in a decade and it has shaped them into what they are today and how they will deal with further issues at hand.

At the moment, the young generation is not indulged in the matters of the throne and it will be interesting to see how the Queen and the Princess go against each other with their kids at the front. Also, shoutout to Daemon, since he seems like the ‘good guy’ among everyone right now.

HoTD Episode 6 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
