Hansika’s Love Shaadi Drama Episode 1 Review

Like all reality television, the tension in this show is high. Every relationship in this show can be sociologically analysed to pick out why some societies work. Our obsession with spectacle gives birth to television like this. Elements of privacy and being in the public eye are often the main themes when it comes to exploring the lives of celebrities. Perhaps it is time to retire this narrative, and this show is a great exhibit that answers the question why.

Hansika Motwani admits that this docuseries is a way to extort money from a difficult situation in her life. If she is able to monetise her low moments, then the sky is the limit for what she can achieve without this looming over her. For someone who didn’t want a relationship in the public eye, she has continuously stoked the fire and only added fuel to the raging flames. It is fascinating that she chose to take the narrative into her own hands and tell the story of the controversy surrounding their wedding.

What is not fascinating, however, is the representation of excess and wealth, the hypocrisy in asking for privacy while keeping the cameras rolling. There is a moment when Motwani asks her family members to leave her alone, and the camera crew is still filming her. For someone who is grudgingly sharing their life in the public eye, they are extremely attuned to what their image looks like.

Let’s not forget that showing any state below Maharashtra demands a montage following the different aspects of the region, including but not limited to a temple, someone making dosa, a shot of the fisherman rowing their boats and the coast. The exoticising of this culture is highly indicative of the wide-eyed curiosity most North Indians come with. The music definitely does not help.

All said, Motwani may be brave in taking the reins in her hands when it comes to the narrative surrounding her wedding, but this could just as easily become a band-aid over a gunshot wound and nothing else. This docuseries is a wonderful way to distract audiences from the obsolescence of celebrity culture while waving a shiny Indian wedding in front of them.

Hansika’s Love Shaadi Drama Episode 1 is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Do you think it’s a good idea for Hansika Motwani to take the narrative in her own hands? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. What utter rubbish. Hansika was Rinki’s best friend. I m witness to her spending hours talking gossipping in compound of our building till wee hours of morning Even if this shameless couple now mislead the world and deny their affair, but what prompted her to marry her best friend’s ex.husband. which friend does this??

  2. How can she say that she was not involved in the first marriage breaking up, when even their friends know about it. It’s common knowledge that their affair started during his first wedding itself. And the only reason his marriage broke is because these 2 refused to break up.
