Girl in the Picture is an upcoming true-crime documentary on Netflix, which is set to be released in July. The documentary is the story of a search to solve a 30-year-old mystery, about who was Sharon Marshall and why was her real identity unknown to everyone, even her? The documentary film is based on the international bestseller A Beautiful Child and its follow-up, Finding Sharon, written by the award-winning investigative journalist Matt Birkbeck.
Matt Birkbeck is also working as the executive producer in the film, which has a runtime of about 1 hour and 42 minutes in total. As a companion to the documentary, Netflix will also publish a special five-part audio miniseries in form of a podcast on Apple iTunes and will feature complimentary information and interviews not seen in the film.

The cast of the film includes the journalist Matt Birkbeck and the investigation officers who were in charge of the case. The trailer shows how the officer got just one picture of a man and his daughter which led to a web of revelations that put everything upside down.

The official Netflix synopsis of the documentary film reads – In this documentary, a woman found dying by a road leaves behind a son, a man claiming to be her husband — and a mystery that unfolds like a nightmare. It investigates the story of Sharon Marshall, as she goes from being an ambitious teenager with a scholarship to Georgia Tech to a woman with a 2-year-old son, forced by her abusive husband to work as a stripper. Her eventual tragic murder leads to an investigation of her true identity and the federal fugitive who happened to be at the centre of it all.
