(G)I-DLE Queencard Vs SHINee Hard: Which Tune Bagged the Music Bank Trophy?

The tussle between (G)I-DLE Queencard and SHINee Hard was equally a riveting voting battle between Neverlands and SHAWOLs (fan bases of the groups respectively). On July 14, 2023, at 5:15PM KST, a new broadcast of the weekly Friday Music Bank program on KBS2 charted out another music war between the greats, one a 4th Gen girl group and the other a 2nd Gen boy group.

Last week, on the same music show, it was the SHINee members – Onew, Key, Minho, and Taemin – who claimed the victory and rejoiced in the second triumph with their latest comeback title track Hard, thereby defeating SEVENTEEN’s Super. Today, again they were pitted against another hit track of the season, i.e. Queencard, which has been on a winning streak since the month of May when the song off the girl groups’ sixth extended play I Feel dropped.

Having already bagged 12 trophies for the song, the GIDLE members had also snagged a win at Music Bank previously. As for the latest music battle of the week, they were again announced as the champions of the show, resulting in the Queencard 13th win so far, and an overall GIDLE 60th win across all South Korean music programs.

This latest feat has also led Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua to keep things still hot after two months of their tracks’ release. They’ve now bagged a double crown after today’s win and are also tied up with BLACKPINK as the fifth K-pop girl group with the most number of music show wins (listed at 60 for both). As of July 14th, the girls have released their first English single titled I Do, in collaboration with 88rising. The CUBE Entertainment girl group will be releasing their first full English EP HEAT in September as a follow-up to their pre-release song.

Other than the musical victory, the latest edition of the KBS music show had a lot to offer including many breath-taking performances. These stellar bits were delivered by LUN8’s Wild Heart, 8TURN’s Excel, Lapillus’ Marionette, KISS OF LIFE’s Shhh, LOONA ODD EYE CIRCLE’s Air Force One, NewJeans’ New Jeans and Super Shy, NMIXX’s Roller Coaster and Party O’Clock, EXO’s Cream Soda, SWAN’s Twenty and more. The new season of the Korean music show is hosted by MCs Hong Eunchae of LE SSERAFIM and Lee Chae-min.
