García! Episode 3 finds our superhuman spy (played by Francisco Ortiz) on his first top-secret mission of the 21st century. The episode also adds context to his backstory and points a shadow of doubt over his long-lost friends. For the unversed, the HBO Max Original is based on the graphic novels of Santiago García, which revolves around a resurrected super spy from the sixties.
The cast of the super spy series includes Veki Velilla as Antonia, Daniel Freire as Neffenberg, Francisco Reyes, Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Silvia Abascal, Lola Herrera, Nico Romero, Helio Pedregal, Mario Pardo, Miki Molina, Marina Gatell and Pepe Ocio. Moreover, the show is primarily available in the Spanish language with English subtitles.

The episode starts with the black-and-white reference to Garcia’s love interest Feli. To whom he reveals the plan of quitting the secretive operations, and leading a normal married life. Something which he also mentions to his partner in crime, Ortiz. The story then shifts forward to the 21st century where Garcia is still on a mission to interfere with the politics of modern-day Madrid, Spain. Where he reunites with Ortiz and kidnaps the politician from the leftist group.
However, this time Ortiz fails to eliminate the seed of doubt inside Garcia’s mind and leaves him with a plethora of questions about his actions. Followed by a subtle interrogation by his daughter/journalist Antonia later.
The episode is quick, witty and filled with hardcore action sequences. Morever, the story of the super spy is halfway through and we have enough context about the bad guys manipulating Garcia.

There are many new characters introduced in this episode, which adds a refreshing element to the story. Furthermore, our vintage crime-fighting super spy is also adjusting to the new world and has learned to send voice messages. Notably, the episode doesn’t shy away from showing off the stylish element through its impeccable cinematography.
All in all, the episode is filled with multiple revelations and the truth about the secretive organization. Plus, it ends on a heartbreaking cliffhanger which will definitely have an impact on the transformation arc of Garcia.

Garcia! Episode 3 Final Thoughts

The episode is intriguing enough to bind you until the end and keep you on your toes. It also moves the story ahead in terms of Garcia’s past and present tussles and successfully finds a common ground for the transformation. However, the role of Antonia is yet to be explored, along with other supporting characters.
There is still a lot left to unfold in the series about the Spanish super spy, which generates excitement for the next episode.
