Gangubai Kathiawadi Actor Alia Bhatt on Being Called 4 Feet Amitabh Bachchan!

All eyes are on Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film, Gangubai Kathiawadi. Fans and movie lovers are quite excited to see the Dear Zindagi actor in such a challenging and interesting role. The trailer is a hit as people are in awe of Alia’s mind-blowing acting and punchy dialogues. ‘Dholida’, the first song from the film released last week and has added more to the excitement.

Alia’s character is based on a fierce brothel owner from Mumbai’s Kamathipura. Gangubai was quite a popular mafia in the city during the 90s. The film is also being premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. So 2 years of wait is paying off as the film is releasing in theatre. The response for posters and trailers are highly positive.

Alia Bhatt was asked by Leisurebyte if playing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi was challenging, like her characters in Highway or Udta Punjab? The actor shared, “This character also had to be entertaining. Highway and Udta Punjab were very difficult characters. But considering the genre of the film, you speak more about the performance. In Gangubai, you have to enjoy it as well and speak about the performance. After a really long time, it is a film where you’re modelling after a character.”

Bhatt further revealed how some people are calling her 4 feet Amitabh Bachchan. She stated, “A lot of people have been coming and telling me that ‘you’re 4 feet Amitabh Bachchan’. Like Agneepath and other films, you’re holding on to the character here. The hold on the character is something I’ve not experienced as an actor and also not seen anybody doing in the last (few years). So I wanted that portrayal. So you have to keep it entertaining and intense. That was hard. I would say it is possibly the hardest because you have to keep it authentic and also has to be entertaining.”

Further, she was asked if she agrees with what everyone says that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali brings the best out of his actors. “I totally agree. Bhansali brings the best. Also, it’s an experience for the actor when you know you will work with him and what will happen. I’ve seen the hard work that he puts into wanting you to work hard. He pushes you to your best ability. That’s something that I will always respect and value. I said that also that nobody has wanted me to do my best. It’s helping me only because I’m able to explore different shades,” shared Alia.
