Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Episode 3 Recap

Frieren and her companions arrive in a volcanic region, hoping to relax in a hot spring after a long journey. Instead of a lively town, they find only a small, quiet cottage. The hot springs in the village have long since dried up, driving most residents away as fewer travellers passed through the area over time. However, Frieren knows of a secluded hot spring hidden deep in the mountains, one she hesitates to revisit.
This hidden spring holds personal significance for Frieren, as she once visited it alongside Himmel. Their trek to the remote location is portrayed beautifully, with calming music and scenic visuals emphasising the passage of time. When they finally arrive, the destination itself feels less important than the shared experiences along the way. It’s also revealed that Stark wanted to visit the spot because his master deeply cherished the view from there.

While this portion is gentle and touching, the episode truly shines in its second half. In a playful moment, Stark casually asks Fern out, only for her to unexpectedly agree.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Episode 4 Review

Without wasting any time, the episode begins with Fern thinking about the dress that she will wear to her date. She even asked Frieren about her opinion, but she’s of no help as usual. The moment Fern and Stark meet, they start their date without saying much. However, it does not mean Stark is calm because in his mind, he started thinking about how much cuter Fern looks in her new attire.
In the beginning, their date does not go very well as Stark misses out on many social cues, and Fern is not very expressive either. But even though these two are so awkward with each other, their heart finally did connect in the most heartwarming way possible. This also does not mean that the date segment went entirely without the mention of Frieren and Himmel. They did make their appearance in very interesting ways.

We also got a glimpse of the date that happened between Frieren and Himmel. Let’s just say it had the power to steal every fan’s heart. As usual, the second half of this episode follows an entirely new adventure of the team. They ventured into the northern plateau, an area Frieren considers to be a dangerous place. True to its name, the area indeed turns out to be a dwelling filled with deadly challenges.
Most of the episode remained action-free, which was changed in the second half of this episode. The last fight was brilliantly animated as it showed the moves very clearly and in an extremely cool manner. After a long time, we saw a serious battle where the protagonists were not winning one-sidedly.

Verdict
This was another win for the Frieren fans because we saw both couples going on a date.
The music was also brilliant for all the action set pieces. But I loved how Himmel’s words direct Frieren’s actions, even now, after all these years he has been dead. She’s literally passing on Himmel’s teaching on to the next generation.
