First Lady Episode 2 Recap

The episode opens right after Min-cheol wins the Presidency, and Su-yeon tells him that she will not give him a divorce because it will look bad in the press. Min-cheol reminds her that she never asked him why he wants to divorce her among all the things that she said to him, leaving her speechless. Hae-rin gently tells him that he probably should’ve broken the news to her gently to convince her, but he shoots down the idea, reminding her that Su-yeol is a very tough person.

Meanwhile, that night, Ji-yoo finds Hwa-jin snooping around in Min-cheol’s study, looking for her missing pendant. Hwa-jin is surprised by Ji-yoo’s questions, who is suspicious of her actions, and asks her why she would lose it there in the first place. In a rather surprising turn, Hwa-jin gives her chase when she realises that she has her pendant, and both women fall down the stairs and injure themselves.

They are rushed to the hospital, and Ji-yoo’s parents are called, and, for some reason, Su-yeon gets defiant and starts to question the doctor about whether they are getting special treatment. The pair start fighting right in front of their injured daughter as Su-yeon asks him to forget about the fire incident from 15 years ago, getting her resentment out. When Ji-yoo wakes up, she asks her father about his relationship with Hwa-jin and the ring that she found in his room. However, when he asks for Hwa-jin’s ring back, things get even more uncomfortable for everyone, and she asks him to leave. In turn, Min-cheol tells his daughter about their divorce, devastating her.

Later, Su-yeon tries to convince Min-cheol not to divorce, since President Yoo’s claims are unfounded and without merit; however, he is convinced that his false claims that landed him in a world of pain. She insists that he give up the special law instead of divorcing her, but he refuses. Su-yeon then realises that this isn’t about the presidency or anything, it’s about his affair. Afterwards, Ji-yoo is heartbroken and angry about her parents’ marriage and insists that they get divorced already, but Su-yeon refuses to budge.

And as if things can’t get any worse, Su-yeon gets the news that Hwa-jin has left her room and runs after her, only to fall down the stairs and injure herself. In the parking lot, she finds Min-cheol talking to Hwa-jin and giving the necklace back, promising her that things are now in motion and that he will solve this issue once and for all.

Later that night, Min-cheol goes to the morgue to see Eom Soon-jeong’s body and then goes to meet Geum-ok, but is unable to deliver the news to him. The next morning, as Min-cheol is having a press moment, Su-yeon sends a bunch of his stuff, which becomes a talking point for the entire media. Su-yeon and Ji-yoo are ambushed at the hospital as the news spreads like wildfire, and in a bid to escape them, the two get into an accident.

First Lady Episode 2 Review

First Lady Episode 2: Eugene
First Lady Episode 2: Eugene

There is a special place in Hell for people like Min-cheol who tell their injured children after a traumatic situation that their parents are getting divorced. The abject rage I felt while watching this episode is unreal, but more so because the series felt very slow, in spite of everything that is happening constantly. The episode has its high moments, especially with Eugene as the First Lady, who doesn’t want to be taken advantage of in any way. She’s a vision to behold. But other than that, things are a bit too murky to be interesting for now. Maybe they will pick up in the future.
