Feedback Ending Explained

The story begins with Marcin Kania, a former rockstar and accomplished musician, who decided to leave that life behind and pursue a career in real estate. The show opens with him lying in his room when his wife knocks on the door. As he wakes up, he discovers his face is covered in blood, but he has no recollection of what transpired the previous night, except for meeting his son. He can’t remember their conversation.

Later that day, he learns that his son is missing, and he realises he was the last person his son contacted, putting him in a troubling position, and suggesting he might have had something to do with his son’s disappearance. When his wife inquires about what happened, he claims he was too drunk to remember anything.

The investigation commenced, presenting a challenge for the police to trust an alcoholic whose memory would fade after drinking. Despite this, Marcin remained resolute: when his son visited him, he seemed fearful of certain individuals, yet unable to identify them. Marcin frequented the restaurant in hopes of triggering memories from the previous day. Additionally, he sought therapy in a support group, delving into discussions about life and addiction.

Through fragmented flashbacks, he pieced together a disturbing narrative: his son had been kidnapped and assaulted at the metro station while attempting to intervene. As Marcin connected the dots, he discovered his son’s association with a tenant’s group managed by Bozena Orszamska. He believed this connection led to his son’s abduction.

Was Piotr Kania Actually Killed Or It Was All In Marcin’s Head?

Piotr, a skilled coder and proficient hacker, possessed an innate talent for all things computer-related from an early age. Despite his capabilities, his relationship with his father, Marcin, was strained. Marcin, often intoxicated, once resorted to violence against his daughter, exacerbating the family’s discord. Although Marcin seldom showed interest in his son’s life, he didn’t hesitate to boast about Piotr’s hacking prowess, recounting an incident where Piotr breached a government website skilfully enough to evade legal consequences.

At a gathering hosted by his friend Zbyszek, Marcin proudly recounted Piotr’s hacking feat. Subsequently, Zbyszek proposed a lucrative opportunity to Marcin, offering him an investment in low-cost apartments that seemed like easy money. Unfortunately, Marcin, influenced by alcohol and blinded by the allure of quick gains, failed to consider the potential adverse impact on others.

Unbeknownst to Marcin, Zbyszek was involved in a scheme wherein a private company, Gigaplex, purchased these government-owned apartments for renovation and subsequent lease at exorbitant rates. However, the marginalised and impoverished residents were unjustly forced out through illegal means. Tragically, this led to several deaths among the affected communities. Marcin remained oblivious to these developments.

Individuals like Ewa and her mother, Bozena Orszanska, valiantly opposed this privatisation and aimed to expose Gigaplex’s illicit actions. Fearing potential consequences, Gigaplex sought to infiltrate their group to prevent any damning evidence from surfacing. To accomplish this, Zbyszek approached Piotr, offering financial incentives for his assistance in obtaining sensitive information.

Piotr reached a point of deep disillusionment in his life. His father’s alcoholism and abuse, coupled with the absence of genuine love from his wife, left him feeling adrift, without a sense of belonging. Consequently, he acted without considering the consequences, assuming the identity of Homer Zork to assist Ewa and her group with technical matters. Unexpectedly, he found himself enamoured with Ewa, despite his initial intentions. Although he continued to spy for Zbyszek, his growing affection for Ewa stirred a sense of remorse within him.

Driven by conflicting emotions, he sought redemption by gathering undeniable evidence against the Bugajski family. Yet, his efforts led to his betrayal being uncovered by Ewa, resulting in a painful breakup. This shattered Piotr, as he believed Ewa was the only one who truly comprehended and accepted him. Consumed by despair and overwhelmed by guilt, Piotr attempted suicide, saved only by the intervention of his friend, Lolus.

Despite this, he persisted in his resolve and made a second attempt the next day. Aware of his father’s real estate dealings linked to Gigaplex’s scheme and Zbyszek’s involvement, he tried to disclose everything to Marcin, but his father’s indifference and alcoholism left Piotr without the support he desperately needed. Ultimately, feeling utterly isolated, Piotr retreated into a forest and tragically took his own life by hanging himself from a tree.

However, Marcin couldn’t come to terms with it because he couldn’t fathom his son taking his own life or being involved in any criminal activities. His struggle would have been easier if he could recall his last conversation with Piotr. The absence of that memory set him on a path that revealed the stark realities of his life.

Despite attending a weekly support group to address his addiction battles, Marcin fabricates his experiences. He deceives both the support group and his family, save for Piotr. His web of lies extends so deep that he begins deceiving himself. Alcohol clouds his mind, distorting reality to suit his desires. Despite constant drinking, he convinces himself he’s been sober for two years.

Marcin’s constant intoxication during the search for his son and the investigation altered his perceptions. His memory was skewed, leading him to envision events that didn’t occur, such as mistaking his son’s actions for abduction in the subway or believing an attack by masked men when he was the assailant. His denial about being an alcoholic blinds him to the truth glaring in front of him throughout the series.

Eventually, during a drink with Slawek, whom he suspected in his son’s death, fragments of memory begin to surface. Despite Piotr previously mentioning Zbyszek, the full truth eludes him until he listens to the recording left behind by his son. It’s then that Marcin is forced out of denial, compelled to accept responsibility for all his actions.
