The third part of the series picks up two years after the ending of the second season as the police duo Andri and Hinrika, get drawn into a war in the remote highlands, where two rival groups fight over specific pieces of land, but for very different reasons.

The neopagan and peaceful sect, The Extended Family, led by its founder and spiritual leader Oddur has raised camp on the land, sees the land as sacred and wants to be close to their heathen Gods. A group of Icelandic bikers, led by an angry young man, Gunnar, also claim the sacred site.

In order to take ownership of the land, he calls for backup and soon a group of Danish bikers arrive by ferry, led by the Danish leader, Hopper. The clash of the two groups leads to the death of a young man, Ivar. It turns out that Ivar was not unknown to Andri, so he feels obliged to join Hinrika in the North to investigate the murder case

The series starts off with the tranced visual of the cult people praying which is interrupted by the noise of accelerated bikes. They go out to see and are threatened by the bike gang leader Gunnar, to leave the land or the consequences won’t be good and get into a heated moment with one of the founding members of the cult, Ivar Kristjansson.

Followed by that we see Ivar getting hit by a hammer-like tool by someone and he dies in the sacred cave. Hinrika who is now Siglufjordur’s chief of police is called for an investigation and another police officer Trausti meets with Andri, who has now transferred to the financial crimes unit. He gets to know that the person who died is the same man who was falsely accused in a case of a missing girl by Andri, who even used excessing force on him.

The case was the reason for Andri’s transfer from criminal investigation and after hearing about Ivar’s death, he feels like the murder case could be connected to the past case and he needs to find the killer as a redemption. But things are much more complicated than it seems.

Entrapped Series Review
Still from Entrapped

The cult is a very closed community that doesn’t co-operate much in investigation and the bike gang, just keeps on making more nuisance under their new danish leader Hopper. Everyone is connected to each other in some sense but they refuse to talk about it to anyone. Meanwhile, Andri and Hinrika have their own personal problems to deal with.

Summing Up: Entrapped

The third instalment of the series (ófærð) is interwoven with the characters’ past and personal trauma, which interlinks with the case they are working on. Andri already has his reputation tainted by his violent actions and any mistake will hamper his whole career. On the personal front as well, he isn’t doing any better after separating from his partner.

However, the elements in the case are provoking him to do something out of the ordinary and violent. In some way, they are also trying to solve the case from 7 years ago with the present case, as the characters are the same who were related to the missing girl. I haven’t watched the Trapped series but the season doesn’t really live up to the hype.

Entrapped Series
Still from Entrapped

It is a slow-burning drama, although the episodes are fewer than in the previous seasons, the story moves slowly and the end is something that you wouldn’t have expected. Although the beautiful landscapes of Iceland make it visually pleasing to watch, the plot seems to be all over the place and you might lose interest in the first three episodes.

It is a quick watch but you need to have the patience to get to the unexpected twisted end. The creator could have told the same story unfolding in a very different manner than involving a cult and the biker gang, that doesn’t add much, other than filling the runtime with their unrelated shenanigans.

Entrapped is currently streaming on Netflix.

  1. You definitely need to have watched the previous 2 series. The cult and bike gang are not unrelated (there is at least one familial relationship). There are big themes working in this but a lot revolves around Andri himself.

  2. Spoiler Alert!

Episode 6 ended in the most stupid manner. How can any court that purports to reason logically convict a person of manslaughter for saving a girl’s life? They reasoned that 1) he was no longer a cop and had no right to legally carry a gun, 2) other cops were there and could have shot the perp had he not done so.

Problems with that logic. Point 1 is true but that means he should have only been charged with illegal possession of a weapon. Point 2 fails to consider that other cops did have their weapons aimed at the perp, but none of them did fire. How many more milliseconds should Andri have waited to see if they were going to do so. By my observation, the perp had racked the weapon after a dry fire and was moving the gun to the girl’s head. Was Andri supposed to think, “I’ll just wait a bit longer to see if someone authorized to carry a gun takes out this perp.”

I don’t know about Iceland, but killing someone to save a potential victim’s life is NOT manslaughter or murder. It deserves a medal. Dumb, dumb, dumb! Very disappointing and moronic ending.

  3. Lena is dead but no one but Ivar knows where her body is. He called her a stupid whore for sleeping with his dad while drunk, and killed her. Andri was right all along.

  4. The ending was stupid and totally inconsistent with the law in every country on earth. To think that a cop in Iceland is guilty of killing someone while defending the life of another is ridiculous. Any citizen in any country has the right to defend himself and others including using deadly force.

The obtuse screen writer made Iceland look like a foolish and stupid judicial system. Now keeping in mind that this is Hollywood, so to speak, This may not even be true in iCeland, which makes the country look even more foolish.

  5. This searies (Trapped 1 & Trapped 2) then followed up with Entrapped *which is season 3, is a phenomenonal series! I urge Americans to watch! You can catch the first 2 seasons free on Amazon Prime & Entrapped on Netflix. You can see that the first two seasons are way better because it was an Icelandic show but as soon as Netflix stuck their noses in, they fouled it up! Entrapped is good because the cast is excellent but sadly Netflix pulled another Hollywood style ridiculous ending. Hopefully the show goes back to Iceland film making bureau & stays out of the Netflix ruin anything it touches, grip.
