This Prime Video comedy takes place in Dhadakpur, Bihar, a town which is celebrating 25 years of being crime-free. When a prized motorbike, intended as a wedding gift, goes missing 7 days before the ceremony, the bride’s family erupts in chaos desperately trying to find it. Dupahiya Review

Easy to watch and light-hearted, Prime Video’s Dupahiya is a funny and warm watch that deals with the hopes and aspirations of the common man. Without many complications and dreaming of doing something more than just existing, the series is a warm and humorous approach to the struggles of those who live without a lot and are happy with it.

It’s Roshni’s wedding and the only thing that she wants is to move to Mumbai to leave the small town of Dhadakpur behind. The opportunity comes up when her sights fall on the brother of the man she was originally supposed to marry, who is set to leave for his job in Mumbai in a few months. However, there is only one problem — the groom wants an expensive motorcycle that is way above anything that any of the villagers have ever seen.

The characters in this series are its funniest part. They are all humble people with simple dreams but they are presented in such dramatic ways that it’s hilarious. Sparsh Shrivastava’s Bhugol is possibly my favourite character in this comedy, who dreams of becoming a “reeler” and does the most random things to make it big as a social media influencer. Everyone else has a flair to them that is infectious and there’s a charm in the streets of Dhadakpur that makes it difficult to stop watching.

All the actors deliver fantastic performances, especially Gajraj Rao and Sparsh Shrivastava. Rao has been a regular on our screens for the past few weeks and this time around too he’s fantastic as the tensed father who just wants to make all of his daughter’s dreams come true. Shrivastava, as mentioned previously, is fantastic as Bhugol and is hilariously immature in every scene. Lastly, I loved watching Renuka Shahane, a woman who has risen the ranks of local politics but still has to fight for her place there and is constantly reminded of her dead husband in all of her achievements. She’s a surprisingly progressive character in this small town and feels like a breath of fresh air.

The series flows smoothly and showcases the bride’s family desperately trying to get their hands on the motorcycle so that the wedding is not called off. In the midst there’s a political angle, as always, that threatens to break Dhadakpur’s 25-year crime-free streak. There’s a lot at stake here and none is smaller than the other. The natural progression of the plot is what makes this series so watchable and you you can’t help but root for these people who are all basically good people. Plus, there’s the question of who the thief is looming in the background that constantly gnaws at your mind.
