Divorce Attorney Shin Episode 3 shows Park Ae-ran finally approaching Sung-han for his services. Meanwhile, Lee Seo-jin attempts to settle on her next steps post-divorce and it strangely involves her attorney as well. Whereas Sung-han suffers from visions of the past as he gets closer to his goal & thinks about his after plans.

After playing up a storm under the bridge, Shin Sung-han wakes up with a bad hangover and a faint memory of everything that happened. He gets a call from Jo Jeong-sik and asks him why did he do that. But unable to recall he gets angry at him for not turning up last night. Soon he receives a video link where he is seen playing the piano with full jest & calls it a disaster.
On the other hand, it has been a month since Lee Seo-jin’s divorce and she is steadily trying to build an amicable relationship with her son. But to be able to retain her custody rights she needs to show proof of employment that would deem her ability to provide for the child. Fortunately, she gets a work offer to start her streaming channel which is the trend nowadays.
But they want her to create adult-centric content that would lure the male population generally. It makes Seo-jin uncomfortable considering her sex tape was leaked & she storms out of the restaurant. Not being able to find a job at any other place, she turns up with her resume at Shin Sung-han’s office & requests a job even if it doesn’t pay much.
Initially, they are hesitant to employ her and ask her to follow to her personal office, so that he can refuse her politely. But the door gets stuck again & looking at it as an opportunity, Seo-jin comments that she can be quite a handful at the office while taking the stuck door apart. By using a ruler, wax, lighter & other stationery she fixes the door along with her unemployment issue.
Meanwhile, Park Ae-ran’s mother-in-law is seen in the hospital despite being completely well & demands to get a diagnosis that prescribes she stays in the hospital for a long period. It looks like a strategy to gather evidence in case they plan to file for divorce. Aware of her MIL’s antics Ae-ran approaches Sung-han before a mountain break on her.
She states that the divorce is inevitable but she wants equal division of the property since she deserves it, after being treated like a doormat all these years. We get to know that the building actually belongs to her husband but as a security, in case of bankruptcy, he transferred it under his mother’s name. At first, Sung-han is not sure about taking the case since they need proper evidence to win anything. However, considering what she has been through & how she always did her work diligently, he decides to help.
But first to analyse the situation and who he is going against, he sends Jeong-sik to gather information about Ae-ran’s MIL. Turns out everyone knows about her bad temper & mistreatment of Ae-ran, and can later testify for her. Sung-han later advised Ae-ran to get any evidence which proves that the original owner is her husband & he had only transferred to his mother.
Otherwise, it will be difficult to get anything from the property if it doesn’t belong to her husband. At first, she couldn’t think of any proof but remembers how her husband told her that there was a notarised document & a recording that contains the proof of transfer of ownership. But the issue is that even that document is possessed by MIL and she will have to literally steal it out of her things.
The episode also showed Jang Hyeong-geun’s turbulent married life, where his wife Ji-eun is apparently living with another man with whom she fell in love, while being married. She asks for divorce which Hyeong-geun is reluctant to settle for since he thinks that she will come back to him. We get to know that he used to work in a trading company prior to being a para-legal & was consumed by his work all the time.
This might have been one of the reasons behind his broken marriage since he couldn’t give time to his needed time & attention to his wife, while she found the same somewhere else. We also got to know more about Sung-han and his past. Apparently, the lady shown in the last episode was his nephew’s stepmother.
She sends her lawyer Park Yu-seok who informs him that they will be stopping his monthly visits to his nephew. It turns out he is the same lawyer who was his sister’s divorce attorney but did a really bad job on purpose, maybe taking the custody away from her. This could be the reason behind Sung-han’s sister’s unfortunate fate and leading him to change his career.
The stepmother is the PR director of Yu-seok’s law firm, where he apparently became a partner in helping with the same divorce. The nephew’s name is Gi-yeong & he has a stepsister named Ha-yul but her mother despises him and wants to keep her away. Yu-seok also notices the grapes colouring chart & asks who he plans to take on after the last one is filled, despite knowing the answer.
Enraged by Sung-han’s determination, he appoints an intern from his firm to find out which case he is working on & maybe Yu-seok will try to tamper with the case. Strangely, the intern is the same person who uploaded Sung-han’s piano performance video. In a flashback, his sister Ju-hwa plays the melancholic piano concerto no 23 by Mozart (displaying her emotions of sadness) and asks him to play the same in his concert in Germany. While the memory gets distorted soon but it could be their last meetup before her death presumably.
Divorce Attorney Shin Episode 3 Review
The episodes delve further into the character’s history and introduced some new ones who will be playing a significant role going further. There were a few lively moments among the three friends as well that shows their deep friendship but it looks like they might not know about his musical past.
Also, continuing my door analogy from the last reviews, I believe Seo-jin fixing up the door is used to show how we will be sliding into Sung-han’s life even further like the door that can open smoothly now. And since she is the one to fix the door, she might also be the one to bring comfort to Sung-han’s stuck-up life.
