Netflix is back with another Arabic series in, Devil’s Advocate. Legal dramas often come with some investigation or, better yet, a lot of plot tension. However, this is expected to be some kind of psychological thriller at the same time. It would be interesting to see a little investigative vibe in the thriller world while the legality is also still a strong part of the plot.
Arabic media has been gaining traction on this platform, and after a few hits and some misses, the streaming platform is happy to keep extending its roster. This series is directed by Essam Abdel Hamid. It is also known as Muhamiat Al Shaytan in Arabic.
Devil’s Advocate Cast
The series stars Haya Abdel Salam, Ali Kakooli, Noor Al-Dulaimo, Muhammad Al Dousari, Nouf Al Sultan, Sara Salah, Lulua Abdel Salam, Shaya Alshaya, Eman Al Ali, Hasan Ibrahim and Abdulaziz Bahbhany, alongside other cast members.
Devil’s Advocate Plot/Synopsis
The main character is a football player who gets accused of killing his own wife. There is a lawyer standing there trying to defend his case, and she is getting agitated. Even though he was the one who reported the crime in the first place, the police are ready to pin all the blame on him. As the trailer progresses, we discover she was a food blogger, sharing videos and recipes with people online, trying to let them know that the best way to a person’s heart is through their stomach.
We see the entire family and friend group get together. They are sitting around a table, passing the food around in the way that makes it seem that they have done this countless times before. Obviously, their marriage wasn’t perfect. They weren’t able to have kids, but the bigger problem was that everyone was expecting them to have one. When she meets her friends, that is all she gets to hear about. However, things aren’t that simple anymore. His wife has been doing something, planning something.
All everyone wants is a fair trial. The lawyer starts looking into the case, but the protagonist has to suffer through the perilous prison sentence, trying his level best to stay low but has been getting beaten up anyways. However, things are just getting started now. Too many players have entered the field, and they all have something to say. Whether the lawyer will dig herself out of this situation is something one can only tell when the series releases.
