Tanjiro has spotted something very interesting in Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 2, and he doesn’t believe what he sees. Let’s see what happens in the episode in this review!

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 2 Overview

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 2 Title

One of the most popular anime of our time, Demon Slayer, is back on our screens with the Swordsmith Village Arc. The newest series follows the 11-episode Season 2 of the show, which you can read all about here. The arc follows Tanjirou as he makes a trip to the swordsmith village to discover why the sword creator won’t remake his sword and meets something mysterious while there. Ufotable is the studio behind Demon Slayer’s anime adaptation, and Haruo Sotozaki will direct the series. It is to be noted that only the first episode was a double-length episode, followed by standard episodes in the future. You can read our review of the Mugen Train movie while you’re at it. The episode is also known as Kimetsu no Yaiba Katanakaji no Sato-hen Episode 2 in original Japanese.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 3 Episode 2 Review- A Misdirect

Tanjiro defends the swordsmith Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 2

I have mixed feelings about how the show handled the entrance of the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito. He is supposed to be the prodigy, somebody who Tanjiro is supposed to emulate and be in awe of. The show places his first appearance in a way that makes the audience doubt him because of standing with somebody who looks mightily like the person Tanjiro remembers from his dreams and Kokushibo. That particular reveal in Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 2 did not do much for me, especially because its actual purpose didn’t turn out to be anything that well constructed.

Tokito is a decent character despite this, as he is the kind who thinks extremely logically about everything and treats people as tools he can use to get even stronger. As the episode noted, he doesn’t have any malice while doing so, and he just believes that because of being the smallest yet extremely talented, he knows best, and his word should be adhered to. He is the normal underdeveloped prodigy type and brings a great dynamic with Tanjiro to the show.

Fear Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 2

Speaking of Tanjiro, he made some very good strides in Demon Slyer Season 3 Episode 2, as he found a way to learn and improve his fighting skills. The way this came to be was also interesting, as it involved Tanjiro almost killing himself in order to get strong enough to be on the Hashira’s level. Any improvement he can have in his fighting skills would mean more nuanced and balanced fights for him in the future, which is an exciting prospect.

The little wordsmith who was getting bullied by Tokito in the first place had the spotlight on him for the entirety of Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Episode 2, and he was decent for who he was supposed to be and what his role in the show was. Little kids can be portrayed in a way that makes them seem annoying and unbearable at times, and there was just a touch of it here, but not that much. He was still well-characterised and had a great part to play in the episode, which is more than you can say about many of Demon Slayer’s characters.

Often, when writing about a cast this size, writers find themselves forgetting about certain characters or not knowing what to do with them once they reach a point in their journey. There are some characters like that in the show right now, but there are a lot of stories still left to tell, and those characters can come in at any time to lend a hand. Characters like Giu, Shinobu, and Kanao fit the bill very well and are characters that are aching to be used more than they are. Hopefully, we will see them all on screen soon!

Verdict

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 2 was a vital episode in progressing Tanjiro’s skills and putting him head-to-head against a Hashira. You can’t help but wonder if some things could have been handled differently and better, however.
