Deaw13 Thai Stand Up Comedy Review Contains Mild Spoilers

Udom Taephanich starts off his show on a slightly political note, with a reference to the protestors and government regulations. Right after, Udom implements his storytelling skills to set the mood for the audience and prepare for the laughter riot.

The special takes its initial time to set the comical tone. At first, Udom ventures into the backstory of the special, and how he was convinced by his team to leave the monastery.

Moreover, the first half of the three-hour standup follows multiple themes like death, getting old and Netflix browsing. This means that there had to be a colonoscopy joke that tickled the funny bone of the audience. It’s one of the high points of the show, where Udom almost picturizes his colonoscopy procedure for the audience, with the constant presence of his fangirl.

The bit is stretched to extract every ounce of laughter from the audience, and it ultimately succeeds in doing so.

Meanwhile, the comedian occasionally makes a direct conversation with the audience and brings forth his comeback factor. The entire crowd reciprocates jovially and resonates with Udom.

Udom also goes meta in his standup when he talks about the time we waste on Netflix browsing. He enacts our entire thought process in a series of sequences, which I related to the most. (Taking a couple of hours to decide and binge-watch an hour special is a good example of it.)

The Thai comedian further goes on a spree of current modes of distraction which contributes to wasting our time on the planet earth. He includes several observations about Instagram, TikTok and social media in general. Some of these are top-notch and will make you relate with laughter.

There are also several personal anecdotes of Udom’s life that you will cherish in the standup special. This includes a whole bit about his date gone wrong(due to multiple reasons), eventually leaving him to a shameful yet comical end.

Moreover, the standup special is vastly centred around his personal life and fame. With a self-mocking commentary about his ageing and out-of-touch nuances. Furthermore, he doesn’t miss out on generating humour from the daily observations and makes the whole experience quite universal.

The length of the standup special is well-balanced with smooth transitions and overlaps perfectly with Udom’s jokes and punches.

Deaw13 Thai Stand Up Comedy Final Thoughts

The standup special is fun and relatable throughout, with genuine moments of uncontrollable laughter. Udom Taephanich displays his seasoned wit with acute observations that will definitely strike a funny chord with you. All in all, Udom’s creative bits are a must-watch if you are a fan of universal comedy.
