Dear David is a brand-new Indonesian high school drama movie that premiered on February 10, 2023, on Netflix. Directed by Lucky Kuswandi and written by Winnie Benjamin alongside Daud Sumolang and Muhammad Zaidy, the movie surrounds a student and her journey of self-acceptance. Meiske Taurisia and Muhammad Zaidy are the producers.
Shenina Cinnamon as Laras takes up the lead role in the movie alongside Emir Mahira taking up the titular character, David. Caitlin North Lewis also stars as Dila in the film. The film’s cinematographer is Robert Cauble, and Maksal Mina gives the music. It has a total runtime of approximately 120 minutes.

Dear David Ending Explained
David and Laras started to reconnect while they were on a trip. During their forest expedition, David suddenly started to hyperventilate, resulting in a panic attack. He then revealed that he had been facing the issue for a very long time, and his father did not know about it. It mainly stemmed from the trauma of his mother abandoning him and his father.
Laras consoled him and said she understood his reaction as she had also lost her father at a very young age. She started to recite a story to calm him down, and the main characters resembled both David and her. They grew closer and started to develop a newfound love for each other.

How did Dila find out the truth?
After returning from the trip, David broke up with Dila. However, he left his phone in Dila’s room, which led her to read all the messages from Laras confirming that she was the writer behind ‘Dear David’ fictional stories. She confronted David about it, which led to a heated argument. The next day she informed the school principal about the truth and handed her the evidence proving Laras’ guilt. As a result, the entire school started to mock and bully her. Even the community from her church ostracised her after the surprising revelation. Nevertheless, David was found by her side through every step.
Dila’s secret
Laras made every effort to apologise to Dila for her self-centred behaviour. Amid the conversation, Dila reveals that she has been in love with Laras for a very long time. She did not confess before because she was afraid Laras would not accept her. But Laras reassured her that she would continue being her friend despite her sexuality.
Did Laras apologise?
The principal reveals that many people requested to expel Laras from the school. But she decided against it since Laras is an excellent student who is a valuable asset to the school. So, a public apology during the morning assembly was demanded from the student, and Laras agreed.
During the speech, she apologised to David for objectifying him and crossing her boundaries and apologised to Dila for breaking her trust. Moreover, she proceeds to complain about how the school cared more about their reputation than the students’ well-being. This instance infuriated the principal, and she asked her to leave the school premise and never return.
Laras gladly leaves and continues to pursue her dream in a different school. She continues to maintain a healthy relationship with both Dila and David. Meanwhile, David is seen seeking help from a professional for his anxiety, and Dila embraces her sexuality.
Dear David is now streaming on Netflix.
