Dead To Me Season 3 Review: The Season Finale Was An Emotional Roller Coaster Ride

Dead To Me Season 3 arrives at a bittersweet end for its season finale. The dark comedy starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini is back to make us chuckle and weep simultaneously.

The rest of the cast includes Luke Roessler, Sam McCarthy, James Marsden, Max Jenkins, Diana Maria Riva, Brandon Scott, Keong Sim, Natalie Morales, Valerie Mahaffey, Suzy Nakamura and more. Liz Feldman created the show, and he was also involved with the writing, including a handful of names like Kelly Hutchinson, Emma Rathbone, Cara DiPaolo, Celeste Hughey, Jessi Klein, Abe Sylvia, Harris Danow, Rebecca Addelman, Njeri Brown, Anthony King, Kate Robin, Elizabeth Benjamin, Dan Dietz, and Jacqui Rivera.

The show is also produced by Liz Feldman and co-produced by both Applegate and Cardellini. Adam Blau does the music across 10 episodes. Daniel Mode and Toby Oliver do the cinematography of the series.

The Netflix synopsis of the series reads:

A hotheaded widow searching for the hit-and-run driver who mowed down her husband befriends an eccentric optimist who isn’t quite what she seems.

The final season of the series starts where the second season ended. Waking up right at the hospital bed after a life-threatening accident, the best-friend duo, Jen and Judy, struggle to get back into their daily lives, but they are yet again met with multiple instances which involve their past. New problems also arise in their personal lives, leaving them both confused and anxious.

Applegate and Cardellini both give strong performances. Like in the last seasons, they were committed to their respective roles. They delivered what the script demanded with flawless execution. Their incredible performances managed to fill in the holes left in by the plot. The other cast members also did a decent job of elevating the story further.

As mentioned, the plot did have noticeable loose ends. Some parts of the story felt unwanted and did not particularly add anything extra. They either seemed like filler parts or left the viewer with more questions. Often some scenes were dragged out and felt repeated. At one point, it appeared that the story from season 2 was being recycled and retold.

The emotional aspect of the story did play out seamlessly. The gradual development of the characters was also seen throughout the episodes. But some of the new characters introduced were forgettable and did not add anything to the story. The writers mainly focused on the relationship between the main characters and did not pay much attention to the other people around them, which was a letdown.

The season finale was rushed to bring it to an end, but it does answer most of the questions the viewers might have had from the previous seasons. The end of the series will leave the audience satisfied and glad that it is not dragged any further.

The background score of the series perfectly went with the scenes when it had to build tension and drama. The styling of the characters was a letdown; the outfits were not noticeable in the slightest. Some episodes were filmed at beautiful locations, which further elevated the story.

Dead To Me Season 3 will leave you with mixed emotions. The series came into life suddenly, and it is going away similarly. It was indeed a bumpy ride, but it did reach its destination.
